Introduction
Healthcare institutions operate in an environment that establishes and changes due to many factors. Policies are among the most critical influences on health care since they affect access to services, quality, safety, and many other aspects of the environment.
Main Body
Strategic management, in turn, allows providers to assess this environment and work on strategies for institutions and their activities (David et al., 2019). Attention to the environment, policy, and strategic management are critical to the successful work of organizations in health care.
As an impactful factor, the policy establishes the conditions and standards for the functioning of organizations and directs their activities. As a result, it affects the organization’s culture and procedures. For instance, after the introduction of the Affordable Care Act, institutions had to change the practices for accepting fees for services and their overall provision by focusing on health effects rather than quantity (David et al., 2019). In addition to procedural changes, the Act also contributed to the organization’s internal culture’s transformations, ensuring focus on the quality of services and work efficiency. Strategic management is required so that institutions can adapt to such changes and, at the same time, achieve their goals.
The Affordable Care Act is only one example of the forces of influence that have caused significant transformations, but the healthcare system is constantly developing due to similar factors. At the same time, in such conditions, institutions must adhere to their mission and vision, which describe their goal and desired future. Strategic management is required to reach sustainable development in a constantly changing environment (Huebner & Flessa, 2022).
Conclusion
As a result, strategic management also affects the mission and vision, as it determines the institution’s operations. It helps to ensure that the organization’s actions lead to the realization of its vision and mission. It affects work planning, decision-making, resource allocation, and other aspects of work. Thus, strategic management influences the success of the organization and patient care.
