Strategic Management Activities in Healthcare

In the system, the correct organization of the work of medical specialists is of particular importance. This is due to the fact that it can provide an increase in the quality of services provided and the level of patient satisfaction. Moreover, it significantly improves the activities of medical workers and contributes to the creation of a positive and productive working environment. Therefore, this discussion will explore the short-term and long-term activities of strategic management in healthcare and how it can help in the facilitation of control in the future.

First of all, it is necessary to gain an understanding of what strategic management in healthcare is. Thus, it represents a clear planning of the goals that the organization must achieve, which will provide an opportunity for development and a successful future and the steps that must be taken for this. Huebner and Flessa (2022) write that the main reasons are “increasing complexity, dynamics and uncertainty of the system’s regimes and the resulting need for strategic thinking in a long-term period” (p. 8617). This fact determines the value of introducing this approach into the system of health facilities.

Next, it is worth moving on to long-term or short-term activities that are involved in strategic management in healthcare. One of the main long-term steps is improving communication between all levels of medical institution employees (Ginter et al., 2018). This is valuable since the established positive relations between the staff become determinants in achieving effective group work. Moreover, it is the result of interaction aimed at quickly finding solutions to problems and improving quality. Another long-term activity is building resilience in a healthcare facility. This aspect is defined as the formation of an organization that will respond comfortably and in a timely manner to possible changes in internal and external factors of work.

In addition to long-term activities, it is worth paying attention to short-term activities within the framework of strategic management. They are actions that can be performed in a short time. Hence, it can be an analysis of the staff’s work to determine the strengths from any side of their work. Thus, after conducting this study, organizations may determine the need to replace some employees or conduct training to improve their work.

Since strategic management is mainly focused on the long-term aspects, it is necessary to examine how it helps control the future of my medical facility. The application of this approach allows gaining an understanding of the main goals that will guide the organization’s activities. It can show effectiveness since my organization is currently experiencing difficulties in maintaining and improving its activities. Fobare (2021) determines that particular value is attributed to an alliance of “senior leadership around a common language for the healthcare strategy’s vision” (para. 7). In addition, control can be achieved by using strategic management as a tool for studying the strengths and weaknesses of the facility. Therefore, by getting rid of problems and difficulties in the work of a medical organization, my facility will be able to optimize and improve efficiency.

In conclusion, strategic management has a critical value in the field of healthcare. Henceforth, this is due to the fact that he assists in improving the quality and productivity of the company’s work. Moreover, it has long-term and short-term companies that will facilitate the successful and systematic development of the medical institution. Regarding control over the future, strategic management is used as a measure to study the organization and identify the main drivers and motivators of development.
