Historical Background of the GI Bill

Before that, the World War Adjusted Compensation Act of 1924 provided cash bonuses to war veterans to facilitate their re-integration into society (U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs [DVA], 2013). In Hawaii, the GI Bill was introduced after the territory became part of the United States in 1959.
