The current essay aims to address the topic of Colonists’ success. To assess that, factors that led to their victory will be presented and discussed. Among the main reasons are foreign aid, location (distance), familiarity with the territory, and leadership.
It should be stated that historians are still debating what factors were the most significant in the Colonists’ success. Firstly, due to Benjamin Franklin’s efforts, the Colonists were able to keep the alliance with French during the revolution: as a result, it brought significant financial and military help.
Secondly, the distance between North America and Great Britain played a significant role in the Colonists’ success. Slow information exchange, transport, and other supplies contributed to their victory. Thirdly, North America’s leadership was much stronger than its opponents in terms of the unity of people and public relations. According to historians, even British people did not support the war and were on the side of the Colonists (“Factors Contributing to the American Victory”).
Fourthly, the familiarity of the Colonists with their territory was another vital factor in their success. Some of the British soldiers had never visited North America; thus, their tactics and military training are done in Europe were less effective in the new conditions.
In conclusion, it should be highlighted that despite facing the greatest British army, the Colonists were still able to win the revolution. A number of different factors led to their success; however, historians pay special attention to the following four elements: alliance with France (the financial and military aid), the impact of the geographical location of North America, greater familiarity of the Colonists with their territory, and strong leadership.
