The last few years have been a severe challenge for me concerning many aspects of life. In this case, emotional struggles and overall mood were the main reason for trying to find solace in expressions of creativity, such as music. Particularly strong in this matter, I remember the song this paper will be devoted to. In order to convey its primary meaning, one must pay attention to the style, lyrics, and overall mood of the melody.
The band, in this case, is The Daughter, an indie-folk band from England led by North London native Elena Tonra. The band was formed in 2010 after the addition of Swiss guitarist Igor Haefeli and drummer Remi Aguille from France (ICMP, par. 1). This band’s music refers to indie-rock and pop-rock, depending on the album under consideration. In this case, I have highly admired the song Home, which is one of the most famous compositions of the authors. Consequently, the following analysis will be aimed at the abovementioned composition.
The reason for such a choice was the overarching sense of hope that is conveyed through the overall light melody. At the same time, there is a local and musical breakdown, allowing you to feel the emotional explosion often felt by people after a long period of apathy (“Daughter – Home” 00:45–01:29). The story is about home and how the lyrical heroine wishes to return to it – however, it is not about a physical object but about a state or time. Such a motif is relevant because of the events where society does not know when things will return to normal. Thus, all aspects of the song under discussion harmonize and create a clear sense of optimism that allows the listener to lift his or her spirits.
In conclusion, all aspects described allowing one to appreciate the song’s value and overall message. Based on my observations, music today is one of the primary sources of emotional relief for people. From this, we can conclude that drawing public attention to creativity in any of its manifestations is a positive trend that will allow society to move into the future without looking back at the given of today.
