The Extent of Poverty in the United States

Introduction

Nowadays, the issue of minority-majority group relations is ubiquitous. However, while one nation transcends the oppressive form of relations, another might still utilize it, consciously or subconsciously. In this respect, the countries such as the USA and Rwanda might be considered not so different.

Discussion

When it comes to the USA, the country still experiences segregation form of minority-majority group relations. While it has been illegal for decades, it is still a prevalent part of the nation. In comparison, the history of Rwanda indicates that the form of relations between the people in these regions involves not only segregation but genocide as well. The Hutu ethnic majority has oppressed the Tutsi minority for centuries, which resulted in mass genocide several decades ago.

As for the group responses to domination, both countries share similarities. For example, the history of segregation in the USA shows the actions of minorities to prevent oppression and discrimination. However, the Tutsi minority, while maintaining a similar approach, such as resistance, supported the campaign of violence toward the oppressive majority group. Thus, the forms of minority-majority groups relations in the USA and Rwanda are similar, yet it is crueler in the latter region.

The issue of poverty is ubiquitous and can be seen in both developed and developing countries. However, what is noteworthy about the extent of poverty in the United States compared with other countries, is that the level of poverty is significantly higher. The reason for this might be the fact that the authorities provide less financial aid to low-income families. Moreover, poor education, high inflation rates, and wage inequality might also be blamed for the high poverty rate.

Conclusion

It is also vital to mention that minorities face the highest poverty rates when it comes to wage inequality. The United States is a multiracial country that only proceeds to experience population growth. However, the impeding factor is the prevailing discrimination that leads to higher poverty due to the inability of many to find well-paid occupations. Thus, the discussed issue in the USA is induced by a butterfly effect, starting with the widespread discrimination and lack of support that further leads to inequality and poverty.
