The Importance of Implementing the Learning Curve

Introduction

The elementary natures of the individuals include the continuous involvement in the diverse activities or tasks which amplify the performance in due course. The result in the performance is highly dependent upon the degree of learning. Learning refers to the fairly enduring alteration in one’s behavior that arises as a result of earlier know-how. If the performance is documented the variation in each second can be identified, a curve can be obtained indicating the progress in the performance. The variations can be encouraging as well as discouraging. The performance curve and the application of these issues have a precise and explicit application in the cost estimation and analysis.

The learning curve

The learning was primarily introduced by the aircraft industry based on the manufacturing cycle. Learning serves as an elementary individual attribute that an individual employed in a cyclic task will advance in his performance over time. The typical curve identified by the aircraft industry was found to be at an increase which gets decreased rapidly, depending on the time and production. The curve is based on the rate of learning, skills exhibited, productivity, and efficiency. The curve indicates the relationship between cost-benefit and production time. Learning curve is the curve describing the relation between the productivity or the output (x axis) with the time taken per unit (Y axis).

Learning curve theory

This theory is apprehensive with the thought that when a new occupation process or movement begins for the initial time it is possible that the employees drawn in will not accomplish utmost effectiveness instantaneously.

The learning curve theory has numerous applications in the manufacturing industries, service industries and the financial industries. The competitive Industries that have a free entry and an exit in the business use the wide applications of the learning curve. They are used in determining the price on the project cost where the large variations are exhibited by the quantity and the production in units.

Performance matrix in pizza store

The performance matrix in the store is to identify the performance in the business in terms of evaluation being done in each case. In a Pizza store, the owner is at the liberty to have a performance evaluation matrix and the different criteria and the different methods for customer satisfaction and the development of the goals. This will make the employees knowledgeable. The process evaluation finds the different criteria in the matrix where the evaluation is made possible.

Performance matrix in pizza store

The importance of implementing the learning curve in the Pizza store was to identify the time the customer waits for each order. The objective of the study was to understand another way against the current practices followed in the pizza store. The current problem faced by the customers with respect to the customer is the waiting time. The customers are highly dissatisfied with the current delivery system in the Pizza store. Some customers are even leaving the shop without making any purchase due to delays in the delivery time. Therefore, the learning curve is implemented in the organization to eliminate this problem. “The goal of the study is to increase the profitability and productivity of the store, plummeting the waiting time and also developing a system that helps in maintaining a balance between the demand for the services and the system’s capacity to provide better services for the customers. There are numerous ways through which the learning curve concepts can be applied to the current scenario.” (“Pizza store simulation”). “Learning curves are useful both to cost estimators and analysts. The learning curve is based on three fundamental assumptions: the time required to perform a task decreases as the task is repeated, the amount of improvement decreases as more units are produced, and the rate of improvement has sufficient consistency to allow its use as a reduction tool” (“Pizza store simulation”). All these tools play a significant role in determining the effectiveness in identifying the right way through which productivity can be increased. As per the learning curve, it is identified that as the worker starts performing a task his difficulty in performing it reduces when it is repeated and the productivity increases. Based on the learning theory and learning curve a certain set of performance metrics have been identified. They are listed and explained as follows:

Profitability: The amount of the business that has been generated and the profit made by the organization is the profitability. The profitability of the firm is depended on the customer’s attitude and buying behavior.

Productivity: The productivity of the firm is the capacity of the firm to produce at a required level in the value of the goods and the services. It depends on the quality of the products of the firm.

Customer satisfaction: It is the degree to which a product suits the needs and wants of the customer and his needs are contented with the firms’ products and he is ready to opt for the product subsequently.

Product quality: Product quality is the specifications, features, and characteristics of a highly customer-centric product. It is achieved by the quality policy and the principle of the company.

Service quality: The service quality is the service made available to the products at the right time and the right place. The service depends on the amicable relationship with the customers. In order to solve these problems, a well-established training program has to be implemented. All the actions of the employees have to be monitored well and appropriate instructions have to be given when it is required. The management has to see whether the present training methods are meeting their goals and if any further improvements are required or not. The various steps that have to be followed are as follows:

  1. Identify the current issue in the organization
  2. Identify the root cause for the problem.
  3. Analyze the problem
  4. Understand the employees’ requirements
  5. Analyze the strength and weaknesses of the employees.
  6. Provide training program
  7. Measure the performance of the employees before and after attending the training program.

By following these methods, the current problem faced by the organization can be resolved to top a greater extent.

Conclusion

Thus, learning curve is an effective tool by which the problems in the organization can be achieved and where appropriate tools are implemented to solve such problems.
