The fan festival hosted by the Premier League in Miami Beach, Florida, in 2019 is a prime example of how hosts have used multiple unmediated communication strategies effectively. The organization focuses on many aspects of sports such as “football, coach development, community, youth development, safeguarding, broadcast, commercial, communications, digital, finance, legal, marketing and policy” (About the premier league, 2021, para. 9).
Fan fest is the primary unmediated communication strategy used by the event organizers. Another one they have applied there is a promotional tour. The event was organized to attract more people’s attention to the ongoing soccer games. It is also necessary to mention that public speeches as another strategy used there since one of the planned events of the festival were a podcast (Blanco, 2019). One can say that the Premier League has successfully applied all three methods of unmediated communication. Readers and viewers of the article may notice that many soccer team fans and ordinary interested visitors of various age groups attended the festival.
Fan festivals are very beneficial for sports organizations. It is where fans spend a lot of money on fan merchandise, food, and beverages. Fans also grab the attention of news, magazines, and websites. Moreover, fan festivals attract a new young audience, which is a long-term benefit of such events for sports organizations. The fan fest reviewed in this work seems to have been fun, and a large number of events show that it was interesting (Blanco, 2019). Digital technology offers new ways for sports organizations to communicate with their audience. For example, players or famous representatives of sports organizations can stream on streaming platforms such as Twitch.
