Because the workplace is based on the relationship between employees, many different problems may arise. One of them that I expect to meet in the future may be discrimination. Despite the fact that movements to achieve equality in such aspects as gender and race are of considerable importance in the modern world, the proposed problem is still relevant. Thus, this scientific paper aims to address the problem of discrimination in the workplace with the help of such sociological theories as feminism and symbolic interactionism. This study will help to get a complete understanding of the issue in order to find effective ways to limit its negative consequences.
Thus, the first theory that can help gain an understanding of discrimination in the workplace may be feminism. The study shows that this approach “suggests that different biological, social, and cultural categories, such as race, ethnicity, and gender, interact and intersect to form a system of expression” (“Sociological perspectives on race and ethnicity,” n.d., para. 6). The theory of symbolic interactionism focuses on the fact that people primarily interact with symbols and signals, which are interpreted differently by everyone. Henceforth, it can provide valuable information about how problems are formed between people of different races, cultures and genders in the workplace.
Therefore, discrimination is a topic of interest, as it is a fairly common problem in the workplace. In order to gain and spread awareness about this issue, it was examined under the prism of such sociological theories as feminism and symbolic interactionism. These two approaches focus on the relationship between races, cultures and sexes, which may be helpful for this study. Furthermore, this research will assist in finding the most productive ways to solve the problem of discrimination and unequal treatment.
