The Project Management Standards

Project management conveys the operational departments of an organization jointly as a team to attain the objectives and indicators of the approach. Successful project management is fundamental to increasing efficiency and achieving better results. That is why in the modern world, there are many international organizations engaged in developing standards that improve the competence, knowledge, abilities, and skills of project managers around the world. Creating and introducing the bar is rather long, labor-intensive, and often painful for separate employees and the whole department. Therefore, it is advisable to provide a particular phase and strategy that allows the CEO to make changes gradually, constantly evaluating the results achieved and making the necessary adjustments.

Proposal

The project management standard affects a wide variety of aspects of the company’s operations. Therefore, its development and implementation should be carried out considering the overall context of enterprise management, which consists of a quality system, organizational structure, and financial system. One promising approach to the process is the organization of the standard as a knowledge base, which provides all the necessary services for updating and searching documents, the organization of relationships between documents, and cross-referencing (Kerzner, 2018). In enforcing the project management standards, the crucial point is apprehending what projects are executed at the establishment, their contrasts, and what is shared between them.

All companies are exceptional, and the framework standards must be adjusted to the precise requirements of project management. It can be performed by using processes of specialization and documenting standards. The enterprise standard should contain an accurate classification of schemes since 96 undertakings can refer to various professional areas of activity (legal, financial, construction, etc.) (Hair & Sarstedt, 2021). Each field has its features, which should be regarded when documenting a standard.

It is advisable to propose organizing specialized templates of the Project Management Plan, fixing specific techniques suggested at the enterprise for the precise type of project. The benefits of the standard templates are evident – the economy of advisors, unification of practices, and time decrease for project documentation preparation (Kerzner, 2018). A bottom-up strategy enables creating a model specific to that organization from scratch. This approach considers all the features of internal and external factors of the company and does not limit the creators of the project management model for their organization (Tenera & Varajão, 2022). Thus, it can be considered a reliable basis for the implementation of any strategy.

Response

It can be noted that the proposed practices and approaches are remarkably rational, as they shift the focus from emotional decision-making to deliberate actions. Moreover, a good suggestion is to use ITIL, as it helps organizations standardize their IT processes and procedures. This standardization allows improving current operations in terms of quality, speed, and cost. It also has the advantage of increasing individual and collective productivity of resources in an organization and, thus, providing a higher return on investment in people, processes, and technology.

Nevertheless, it is essential to note that a CEO can have objections because of a lack of flexibility in ITIL use, especially if there are plans for expansion of activities. Furthermore, ITSM approaches can be incompatible with some of the operations and software in the organization. Thus, before applying the approach, the CEO should check the compatibility with the processes and technology choices. The best solution may be to use a mix of practices to cover all existing requirements and meet the company’s needs while reducing risks.
