Introduction
Almost everyone nowadays owns a cell phone. They allow us to communicate even when things are challenging. Nonetheless, drivers must exercise caution when using a cell phone, as doing so is one of the riskiest activities. Texting while driving is very dangerous because it can affect an individual’s attention span and lead to tragic consequences.
Why People Should Not Text While Driving
The main reasons not to text while driving are the following:
- Distraction. Texting while driving can distract you from the road and increase your risk of an accident. This can happen very quickly, so it’s best not to take the risk.
- Relaxation. Writing messages while driving can lead to relaxation, which can lead to a lack of attention to the road. Thus, your reaction to road circumstances may slow down (Nicoletti, 2020).
- Breaking the law. In some states or countries, it is illegal to text while driving, so you may pay a fine (Nicoletti, 2020).
- Inappropriateness. Everyone knows texting while driving is inappropriate, so you shouldn’t do it or do it wrong.
- Unsafe. Being distracted from the road can lead to unsafe situations because you won’t be able to react promptly to road circumstances.
Personal Opinion
People should not text and drive, in my opinion. The argument is that persistent diversion from the road might result in unanticipated results. Even little distractions behind the wheel might result in accidents or other harmful acts. For example, my friend frequently texts while driving and doesn’t even glance at it. Recently, she almost got into an accident. She didn’t notice a pedestrian on the road at all. It almost became fatal for her, but luckily, no one was hurt.
Although cell phones allow us to stay in touch with friends and family, texting while driving should be prohibited. Now, there are many ways to stay connected and safe. For example, you can listen to audio recordings or music (Nicoletti, 2020). You can also take a break from driving and write a message after reaching your destination.
Conclusion
In general, texting while driving is hazardous. However, some individuals continue texting while driving and put themselves and others in danger. Therefore, drivers must be cautious and never forget about safety on the road.
