The Shawshank Redemption is an American motion picture based on Stephen King’s novel, one of the most recommended films for many years. It was composed and coordinated by Frank Darabont in 1994. The film describes Andy Dufresne’s fate, a man falsely accused of committing the homicide of his wife and lover. He meets Red, a man who provides prisoners with unallowed items, a typical function in prison films. These two gradually develop a companion relationship by helping each other to surpass the challenges faced in the cruel world.
The film adequately communicates the suffers and concerns of detainees through an experienced and notable cast. In particular, Freeman makes his character (Red) look genuine and alive, which made him a lot more grounded figure than just an ordinary observer of Andy’s journey. The lead actor, Robbins, likewise gave an exceptional, layered performance, which provided his character with depth and individuality. What is more, the choice of scenery perfectly fits the storyline. The dark saturated theme and old buildings make the work realistic. Similarly, the moving scenes are accompanied by beautiful dark piano music in the background.
One of the disadvantages of this cinematography is its length. Its runtime is about 140 minutes, which might feel a bit protracted. However, it helps to expand the plot and explicate the characters’ behavior. Also, I would not recommend watching this film for kids and younger teens since some violent scenes may be too frightening. Despite that, it is a very appropriate movie to spend leisure time on. Therefore, considering all the mentioned features, I give 3.5 stars out of 4 to this longtime masterpiece due to its impressive cast’s performance, music, scenery, and good expansion on the characters.
