Virtual Games as Platforms for the Development of Criminal Activities

The virtual world is a sort of reflection of real-world issues and complexities. Virtual games have long been used as educational tools that help people acquire different skills. However, the examples provided reveal the dark side of gaming. Both RuneScape and EVE games are not completely virtual, as gamers often spend real money to buy items or achieve certain goals. Virtual games become another platform where money exchange occurs. Therefore, these platforms are prone to criminal activities, just like the real world is. Gamers can steal various things, including other gamers’ items or achievements.

More importantly, games can be used  various scams. The author mentions various things he did in the virtual world. In simple words, the author and many other gamers become seasoned criminals in the virtual world. There are high chances that some virtual criminals may start using their newly-acquired skills in the real world. Hence, it is crucial to make sure that these games have the necessary control and supervision. Any type of criminal activity should be banned in the game. When some cases still occur, real-world courts can be the appropriate platform for treating fraud in virtual games.
