Animation and visual effects of outer space in cinematography are used for a long period of time. In the space related movies 3D and other effects look appropriate, as they are the only available way to conduct a shoot in the modern realities. Through visual effects, viewers begin to feel the same as the characters of this film and perceive the atmosphere. Therefore, post-production processing has become an integral part of cinematography and is used in many films, including the sci-fi short film Decommissioned.
In a short film Decommissioned, employees at a space station decided to dispose of a decommissioning costume and sent it into space to travel as a satellite. It was supposed to fly into the atmosphere and burn up, no other options were envisaged. However, many years later, the captain of the International Space Station sees the same suit not only traveling out of the orbit, but also approaching the station itself. At one point, the captain, who holds the camera in his hands, thinks that he sees a man inside the suit. After that, the suit reaches the station and in the next shot, the viewer sees how the captain himself is already outside the station in this suit (Decommissioned). The film is frightening in the atmosphere, script, emotions and speech of the character.
Most movie creators of the past have previously consulted with scientists and studied reference literature. Cinematography began to turn to space themes at the dawn of its inception, before the emergence of montage and until the transition from the category of fairground attraction to great art. The filmmakers of Decommissioned took a responsible approach to recreating the appearance of spacesuits and a spaceship. Additionally, effects consist of creating a visual background, sharp zoom and rotation, which creates a hectic atmosphere (Decommissioned). Composing which is an effect that replaces combined shots allowed to create the illusion of continuity of transitions in some parts. This created some kind of “freeze” of the movement, turned 2D objects into 3D ones, showed the trail, created and animated shadows. Models of space objects were most likely created in graphic programs.
Special effects have become an integral part of modern cinema. Representing a set of technical means and techniques, they, along with editing, sound and color, made up the toolkit that filmmakers Decommissioned efficiently operated. With the development of computer graphics, relying on technical, primarily computer capabilities, designers produced the material that is not limited by either time or space. Thus, optical effects are used: the desired effect is obtained through a combination of tools. The shoot was likely done against the background of the green or blue rear screen, after which the picture was combined with the background during the post-production. They transformed the surrounding reality, constructed non-existent and non-reachable illusory, virtual worlds.
In conclusion, visual effects include a range of different technologies, techniques and techniques. Some of them are used during the filming process, while others are used during the editing and toning period. In addition, in the process of development of television and cinema, new technologies appear, and some of the existing ones are becoming obsolete and replaced. In the film Decommissioned, viewers see the use of visual effects to create the background. The background, which could not have been filmed in real space, revives the right atmosphere.
