Well Versed Citizenry in Science: Valuable or Not?

Each nation has its own achievements and sights to be proud of: some nations are proud of their devotion to their traditions and cultures, some nations are proud of their technological and scientific achievements, and some nations are proud of good interrelations with many countries. However, the things, which make lots of nations proud, are not always valuable, this is why it is crucially important to evaluate the achievements in each sphere and take into account possible influence of these achievements on other countries. To be proud does not mean to be the best. But still, there is no limit for self-improvement and development, and, to my mind, it is quite valuable and even obligatory if a nation has a citizenry that is reasonably well versed in science: such abundance of professional may help this nation to take leading positions in the world and be recognizable among other nations; well versed in science nation can easily help other countries to develop and enlarge international communication and exchange of services; and, finally, science is always changing, this is why it is crucially important to follow innovations and be able to evaluate their effectiveness in order to use them for better.

One of the best opportunities, which lead to the improvement of living standards and the decreasing of poverty, is the development of science and technology (World Bank, 311). If people do not care about science, they do not care about their future, benefits, and proper existence. To my mind, it is one of the first factors, which prove that it is valuable to have well versed scientists for each nation. Of course, it is impossible to take leading positions in each sphere of life, however, even a simple desire to develop and serve as an example for the other should stimulate nations to find out innovations and improve living standards.

In the last two decades, the importance of education has become really urgent. Nowadays, lots of people prefer to study distantly, this is why lots of technologies appear very often. Several states have already evaluated the possibility of virtual learning (National Research Council, 45), this is why the nations, which want to use this service have to have enough people, who will be well versed in science and technology. Such awareness will offer our future generations to have the same chances to achieve good results and develop own country day by day.

However, the nations with enough number of well versed scientists should take into consideration one simple point: abundance of professionals may lead to unpredictable problems with other nations and even within one and the same nations. If people know too much in one sphere, they may easily demonstrate their knowledge in other spheres, not being introduced to all peculiarities of the chosen sphere. This is why well versed people should be intelligent enough to develop own science but not impose personal ideas to the others. It is possible to suggest in order to improve the conditions, but not to manipulate the others. This is why despite of the fact that such question like whether it is valuable for a nation to have a citizenry that is reasonably well versed in science is not that complicated, it is very important to pay attention to the word “reasonably”. So, if the professionalism is reasonable, abundance of well versed scientists will be valuable.
