“Wetback” a Movie by Arturo Pérez Torres

Immigration has always been an ongoing issue for a number of states all over the world. Moreover, it gives rise to numerous concerns related to the character of this process and its impact on the states involved in it. There are two opposite perspectives on the given question. The first one states that the arrival of new citizens might have the positive impact on the state of a country and promote its evolution. Another point of view implies the negative attitude to immigrants as they introduce a number of problems to local governments and deprive citizens of the state of their privileges. The existence of the diametrically opposite points of view conditions the appearance of many problems related to migration.

The importance of the issue is evidenced by the fact that there are many various sources that tend to describe the given problem. The movie Wetback: The Undocumented Documentary also delves into the most crucial concerns related to the question of migration. The film revolves around the attempts of immigrants to cross the border and find their new home. It states that about 3000 people from Latin America try to move to North America every day to find a job, better living conditions, etc. (Wetback: The Undocumented Documentary). However, only 300 of them manage to do it. Besides, the movie also presents various points of view on the given phenomenon and makes a viewer reconsider his/her own approach to it.

Nevertheless, Wetback also describes the work of US border patrol agents who try to prevent immigrants from crossing the border. These vigilantes are sure that their job is crucial in terms of the strangle of the undocumented immigrants. The patrol agents consider these people dangerous as they might undermine the state and promote the collapse of its financial sector. It is one of their strongest arguments as they are sure that the undocumented immigrants will pose a great threat to the state machine. Moreover, they might have various reasons for remaining undocumented. This fact could also condition the increase of the level of crime. For these reasons, US border vigilantes are sure that they protect their fellow citizens and guarantee the further development of their state.

As stated above, there is another perspective on the given question presented by immigrant safe-house proponents. These people help immigrants to cross the border and move to North America. There are several reasons that make them act in this way. First, they are sure that migration has the positive impact on all states that are involved in the process. Immigrants will become the members of society and pay taxes, contributing to the development of a state. Additionally, they will also send money home to support their families. Besides, there is another aspect that influences safe-house proponents. They are sure that immigrants have the same human rights as other people, and they deserve humane treatment.

Altogether, one realizes that migration is one of the major concerns of the modern world as every day thousands of people try to cross borders and become the members of new society that will provide them with the new and more beneficial conditions. However, there are two opposite points of view on the given question and the movie Wetback: The Undocumented Documentary perfectly highlights them. The movie reveals the most nagging problems of the issue and triggers reconsideration of the approach towards migration.
