While being on time is a debated topic, not being late is still perceived as a positive trait of an individual. Arriving on time for business meetings, appointments, and other scheduled events means that a person is reliable and can be trusted, allowing others to get an insight into how an individual views others and themselves. In contrast, having a habit of being late can have an abundance of negative implications and, although it seems like a minor indiscretion, can have a long-standing effect on a person’s reputation and career. Therefore, it is necessary to learn about the importance of punctuality because it helps establish a good impression, which is instrumental in reaching one’s goal faster. After all, others see that the person is someone to be respected.
Being on time has many benefits for a person, especially in their professional life. Arriving on time helps a person remain calm and collected so that they can make a great impression and show others that they respect their valuable time. Moreover, arriving early allows a person some extra time to gather thoughts, think through future meetings, as well as appear more prepared and confident (Contento, 2019). On the contrary, being late communicates a lot about a person, and much of it is not good. It may show that a person is not respectful of other people and does not value their time. Others may think that the person being late considers their time more important than theirs, whatever the reason for lateness. It shows disregard and disrespect and suggests that the tardy person is unreliable, careless, and disorganized. Therefore, there is no reasonable argument that one can provide to show that being on time does not offer any benefit.
