Overview of the Project
The Research’s Direction
This research will focus on the strategic alliance of two well-known companies, Apple and Google, deciding to unite their efforts at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their collaboration aims to create contact tracing technology that lets trace people having contact with those who contracted COVID-19. In addition, this noble purpose has brought the millionth profit to the firms: neither Apple nor Google could get such income on their own. Therefore, this research will investigate the motives of these companies’ collaboration.
Empirical Context
The research will be based on observation of Apple and Google collaboration’s business activity and practices. As for the timing of the focal event, this alliance started its functioning in April 2020. The analysis will involve eight months, from April 2020 to December 2020. The research will focus on the achievements of contact tracing applications worldwide and the business benefits that this project brings to its developers.
Primary Objectives
This study aims to explore the various sources and data focusing on the work of collaboration and find out the primary purpose of the alliance due to using business frameworks, theories, and concepts. Moreover, it is necessary to determine the main factors contributing to prospering of collaboration and aspects causing its failures. Thus, the primary objective of the research is a detailed and well-develop analysis of Apple and Google’s strategic alliance focusing on its primary motives.
Research Design
The type of this research is a review or descriptive analysis. Therefore, it will be necessary to utilize various theoretical works related to strategic alliances, types of their collaboration, business theory, and techniques, contributing to the alliance’s performance. In addition, different public sources focusing on Apple and Google cooperation and including organizations’ websites will be utilized. The implementation of this study requires data collection and analysis.
The Study’s Importance
This research is quite significant since it can benefit in several directions. Firstly, this research will answer why the two largest Silicon Valley companies collaborate. Secondly, it contributes to the general understanding of mechanisms of alliances. Thirdly, this study will try to respond to how large organizations can help other people and, at the same time, increase their income. Hence, this topic is promising and needs to be thoroughly explored.
