Definition of Nursing
Nursing is a scientific technology or methodology for organizing and providing practical nursing care for a patient. Essentially, this is a clear action plan for nurses and its consistent implementation. Therefore, the joint venture consists of a well-thought-out nursing plan based on patient concerns and an assessment of the effectiveness of the nurse. At the same time, nursing is highly dynamic and cyclical, as, in the process of helping the patient, new problems may arise that require planning and fast decision making (Potter et al, 2017). The provision of nursing care is the primary goal of restoring the patient’s physiological, psychological, social, and spiritual health.
Assumptions or Underlying Beliefs
The philosophy of nursing is based on the universal principles of ethics and morality. Nursing relies on an ancient tradition whose purpose is to satisfy human needs in protecting health and the environment (OBrien, 2018). The basic principle of nursing philosophy is respect for life, dignity, and human rights. Nurses believe in the sacred gift of life and, in this regard, consider each person as a whole with their internal capabilities for growth and physical, philosophical, social, cultural, intellectual, and spiritual development.
Definitions and Examples of the Major Domains of Nursing
One of the significant domains of nursing is the provision and management of nursing care, taking measures in prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, or psychological support for the patient. Another domain is the training of patients, their families, and health representatives, which includes the assessment of human knowledge and skills related to the preservation and restoration of health. Another domain consists of acting as a productive member of the health team, which allows collaborating with patients, families, and other health workers for the planning, organization, management, and evaluation of nursing care.
The connection between the Domains
All the domains are interdependent, as they help to create valuable, necessary data about the patient and use it together with the patient in the process of care in all aspects of nursing. They play an essential role in evaluating the effectiveness or inefficiency of various types of nursing interventions and acting as a training tool for medical staff. Actions are coordinated under ethical standards, planning, and providing health care services based on impartiality, honesty, fairness, respect for gender, and respect for human rights.
Summary
In the future, there might be a more prominent shortage and outflow of nursing personnel from health care. The reason may lie in decline in the prestige of the nurse, and, nowadays, the nurses themselves are not seen as trustworthy in the eyes of the patient. Other reasons include low wages, sometimes a large amount of work, often not corresponding to the skill level, and in some cases monotonous, routine work (Cherry & Jacob, 2019). This problem may lead to a decrease in the quality of medical care for patients.
In connection with the modernization of healthcare, there might be an increase in the volume of technogenic interventions, which increases the doctor’s overload by nursing manipulations and reduces the number of medical services during nursing care. Moreover, the constant shortage of nursing staff, as well as the remaining low wage, may impact me, as it will lead to the fact that the vast majority of medical sisters and paramedics work more than for a headquarters or combine other positions. At the same time, nowadays, I might endure increased physical and psychological load, the prestige of my profession being decreased, and the quality of the provision of medical services deteriorating with time.
My goals are to be truthful and honest and to be appreciated and respected. I will do my best to respect the patient’s right to receive information about his state of health, about the possible risk and benefits of the proposed treatment methods, the diagnosis, and prognosis, as well as his right to refuse information in general. Another one of my goals is to have professional skills and knowledge to help in emergency cases and prove to be useful to society. Moreover, I want to be able to provide anyone with medical care that can save their lives and continuously develop my professional abilities.
