One of the most fascinating and multifaceted periods in art and design is the 18th century. This is because, the global civilization grew more conscious of each other, cross-cultural pressure increased. During this period a lot of main diplomatic and financial revolutions had extensive penalties for art and design.
During the 18th century, a lot of films were produced but one of the most fascinating films that caught my eyes is Marie Antoinette which was produced in the year 1938 by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and was directed by various people e.g. Van Dyke. The movie portrays that ornamental arts and internal design were distorted by the growing fame of the rococo fashion, a cheerful and elegant fashion based on irregular usual forms (Zinga 11). Its landscape is particularly decorated for the occasion.
I learned that the film had thousands of sets of clothes and plentiful sets of art and designs. The clothes that Marie Antoinette had put on were done a lot of research so that the sewing and fabric could be indistinguishable. Cloths were particularly wicker and embroidered with different sutures at times too small to be observed with the bare eye. The attention detail was extreme, from the framework to hair (Jinga 1998).
According to the directors there were few styles of art and design in that time but free-thinking experience led to a pleasant fashion of painting and statue rich in the ornamental result and animated of human feeling. The gown worn had various designs and others become heavy because of the embroidery, flounce, and valuable stones utilized. The outfit did not have enough color and most of them had to be dyed.
One of the major teachings in the movie is that; no matter how awful things get, with willpower one can still come out on top. There will be always people around who will support and stand by you. Marie Antoinette desires to satisfy everybody, but she ended up not pleasing anybody at all. A lot of people hated her for the altering she coped to bring in the courtyard and was generally loathed for being an Austrian stranger. This teaches us that we should be ourselves and not try to please people at all times.
There is lovely drawer which is designed properly to attract viewers’ eyes. The drawer stands low on four decorated feet. It is ornately ornamented in the round and the drawers are nearly veiled by the gild information. The knobs used to unlock the drawers are basically fashioned from the dragons’ remains
The movies also reveal how art and design in the 18th century sustained the classicizing propensity of the 17th century in most of the countries especially in France with bigger preserve and modification, traditional designs still remains a late ornate style. Reserved adornment, delicately carved sandstone particulars and the complicated play of capacity and illumination provide the conjugal and community design the era of intelligence of tranquil splendor (Bilga 45).
Finally, One of the most fascinating and multifaceted periods in art and design is the 18th century. One of the most fascinating films that caught my eyes is Marie Antoinette which was produced in the year 1938 by Metro-Goldwyn-Maye.
