Social concerns associated with a decline in educational and cultural level, the blurring of life reference points and values, and the inability to interact constructively and resolve conflicts have become more acute among adolescents. This concern has arisen primarily due to the unmet needs of teenagers, and it must be altered. Individuals between 13 and 18 are exposed to numerous risks because of social and emotional growth; therefore, counseling this group is critical.
Teenagers’ needs and components of their social success primarily involve adequate self-esteem, enjoyment, power, social engagement, and independence. It is possible to establish a relationship between these desires and conclude that the needs of adolescents are reduced to one more general – to become socially successful and be accepted by society. Thus, to form harmonious personalities, it is necessary to focus on the features of teenagers, the needs of this age, and the impact of the satisfaction of desires on the effectiveness of the formation of their social success.
Each teenager needs to have people around who would understand, accept, and share views on various subjects and phenomena. The peculiarity of the need for belonging is that it is a transitional age, and children are looking for themselves and need recognition and support for their choices. Peer relationships have a decisive role since it is in the process of communication that adolescents learn norms of social behavior and, at the same time, establish relationships of equality and respect.
It is valuable to create such conditions for the positive realization of the child’s potential in which self-affirmation and self-actualization will manifest in the proper and not in the distorted form. It will be the most challenging task because every misunderstood word can lead to adverse reactions and consequences. Therefore, it is crucial to create an honorable environment and an emotionally comfortable climate and focus on guiding teenagers to create feasible cultural experiences. Considering basic needs and their fulfillment should be the basis for communication and the ultimate goal of group setting.
