Introduction
Whenever a child is required to be adopted, letters of recommendation are sought from people who are known to the applicant. The recommendation letter justifies why the applicant is a fit case for adopting a child and why he or she will prove to be a good parent. The recommendation letter evaluates the applicant’s character and portrays him or her in good light. The following is a sample of the recommendation letter for an applicant who desires to adopt a child (Adoption.com, 2009).
To Whom It May Concern
This letter is to unreservedly recommend my friend John Adams as an adoptive parent. I have known John for over ten years and have learnt of him as a special person. John works as a correspondent with the New York Times and is an excellent human being. He understands his responsibilities at work and has demonstrated humanitarian traits in his personal and work life. Not only does John divide his time perfectly between work and family life, he is also a keen social worker and knows how to love and care for his near ones. He is a favourite amongst all those that he deals with, and is a commanding and powerful personality. He is assertive but just at the same time and has a positive attitude in demonstrating empathy, love, care and a high sense of responsibility.
Further, John is engaged in conducting programs for children in his community and takes them for outings every six months. To make such programs an enjoyable and memorable experience for children, he does not hesitate to spend money from his own pocket over and above the amount that is collected from the community members. Parents and children visit him to resolve personal problems because they trust him in sharing their feelings and emotions with him. John is smart, sensitive to others, and a great provider. He loves children and at family events can be seen on the ground playing with little kids. He is gifted naturally to effectively relate with children on their own perspectives and can never ill treat them in any way.
John and his wife Alice were married four years ago and have been unable to bear a child of their own whom they can love and bring up in keeping with the high ambitions they have for their child. They have visited several doctors to resolve this problem but have not succeeded so far. I too understand their need to have a baby and have been praying for the fulfilment of their dream. I can vouch for John and his wife that the child they adopt will be very lucky in having loving and caring parents who will make him or her into a very loving, sincere and successful citizen.
Both John and Alice are upbeat and optimistic and live a very active and exciting life. They enjoy outings a great deal and go out on frequent fishing and hiking trips. They love to get away from the drab routines and the only shortcoming in their life is the need to have a child of their own with whom they can share the intense love that has been brewing in them ever since they got married.
