Business Ethics: Term Definition

Ethics plays a crucial role in terms of the well-run working process of the company. It determines the morality of actions; its concern is focused on avoiding the abuse of personal position in the company for personal gain and preventing social harm from the introduction of such institutions. The basis of business ethics is the understanding of labor as a moral value. The work becomes an ethical topic as long as it is perceived not only as a source of means of subsistence but also as a way of forming human dignity (“Chapter 1: What Is Business Ethics?”, n.d.). The subject of the meaning of life becomes the issue of the purpose of activity; a duty is regarded as a professional duty. Responsibility is refracted through professional responsibility; the qualities of a person receive an ethical assessment.

The theory of utilitarianism concerns the search for criteria for measuring values, which would make it possible to determine the ethical legitimacy of any actions and laws. The most effective factor is the degree of usefulness or harmfulness (“Act and Rule Utilitarianism,” n.d.). An operation is ethically legitimate in case its total favorable effect exceeds the overall beneficial effect of any other action that could have been performed instead of the first.

Business ethics can help in solving dilemmas occurring in the working process. The term reveals a judgment prescribed two opposite signs, excluding the third. Ethical dilemmas are always linked to the problem of social work values (“Defining on “Ethical Dilemma,” n.d.). My views on ethics have evolved throughout my lifetime, relying on the different aspects and locations. The moral dilemma’s nature may depend on the country’s social, cultural, and political conditions, in which social work is carried out. For example, social workers in the United States identify the following as the most common dilemmas: the social worker’s religious views and the provider of social services (“Defining on “Ethical Dilemma,” n.d.). Besides, there is a discrepancy between ethnocultural traditions, participants in social action, and the disparity between the social worker’s views and other participants in the process about the parliamentary system. Thus, business ethics pays attention to the broad area of questions appearing throughout the work process, taking into account the interests of the administration of the company and employees.
