Central Bank’s Communications Strategy

The main issue covered by Graham Smart’s article is that the set of genres and wide range of meditating technologies associated with the Canadian Central bank’s communications strategy can be perceived as portions of local organization action. As he attempts to prove his point, Smart explores two aspects of the genre set utilized by the bank namely the knowledge genre and the relationship that the set of genres has with the organizational change processes.

After exploring the two features of the genre set, Smart’s article explores the role of the genre set concerning the communications strategy activity and concentrates on the important roles of the coordination of the Bank’s functions. As pointed out by Smart, these roles are carried out by the numerous individuals who exercise the bank’s official public stand and monetary policy. These individuals also perform the role of assuming the position of the organization’s learning site. While exploring the above issues, it can be observed that the author is demonstrating how a disclosure genre set that is mediated by technology controls the bank of Canada’s organizational thinking procedure and its rhetorical action that constitutes the bank’s communications strategy.

From Smart’s article, it can be observed that the technology-mediated set of discourse genes indeed play a significant role in the Bank of Canada’s communications strategy. Smart’s article breaks down these roles systematically and even points out the genre set which, together with numerous mediating technologies, can be found to be very useful by the bank in its communications strategy. As one reads Smart’s article, it comes out clear that he has extensively studied the bank’s communications strategy and this is the factor that makes me agree with his views about the bank’s strategy. Two discussion questions that can be raised from his article are:

  1. How important is it for departments dealing with communications in organizations such as the one explored by Smart, to know and apply the set of genres that work well with their communications strategy?
  2. How does an organization identify the set of genres that would work well for its communications strategy?
