Combating Stress: Methods for Combating Stress

Student life is an exciting time, which simultaneously stimulates and can also cause stress due to severe life changes. General stress can be caused by anxiety about the future, heavy learning burden, exams, and other factors. Sometimes, stress occurs in response to specific events, such as visiting a schoolmate’s home or working. Even though stress can cause serious inconvenience and depress students, some methods help fight it.

The common reason for the stress while visiting and at work is constant communication or awkwardness during conflicting situations. A lot of discussions occur in various cases during the day, and as a result, there is a slight overload in communication. During a visit to a classmate’s home, I sometimes miss family. I also note discomfort when it seems like I am invading personal space. At work, in turn, fear of making a mistake can cause stress. Moreover, considering the importance of work as a finance source, an additional burden is felt – responsibility for my own well-being. I believe such gaining of control over my life a crucial stage of growing up.

For stress not to take control of my life, it is vital to cope with it. Most methods for combating stress agree that it is necessary to achieve a balance in life. It assumes a balance between rest and work, health care, and guiding by own values. In this case, a person becomes stronger and can better cope with stressful situations. Most of the proposed actions are similar, and I would like to highlight a few basic ones. For example, healthy and complete sleep, exercise, and mindfulness improve overall tone (Smith). It is also critical to have someone to talk to – parents, a close friend, or a therapist (Cause of Stress). The last method helps to cope with stress if unpleasant feelings arose suddenly – deep and slow breathing (5 Ways to Reduce stress). Thus, it is vital to increase the overall tone and balance work and rest to combat stress.
