Introduction
If environmental policy is disregarded, our community’s air and water will suffer severe consequences. Without regulations, uncontrolled pollutants like chemicals, waste, and heavy metals could be dumped into the water and air, causing pollution. As a result, my community may experience significant declines in the quality of its water and air, which could hurt both.
Air Pollution
When pollutants are not controlled, smog spreads, and our air becomes more dangerous, according to the concept of air quality. Asthma cases and chronic illnesses like cancer may rise due to this (Ćurić et al., 2021). Additionally, because of climate change brought on by the emissions of coal and other pollutants, extreme weather events like heat waves may occur more frequently.
Water Pollution
The repercussions may be equally detrimental to water quality. The risk of industrial waste and agricultural runoff contaminating the water would increase if environmental regulations were not strictly adhered to (Union County, n.d.). This could result in toxic algal blooms, elevated nitrate levels, and waterborne illnesses like E. Coli. Food insecurity and a more significant strain on our healthcare system could result from water contamination, as people with weakened immune systems would need to receive treatment for any illnesses they contract from contaminated water.
Health Effects
If environmental policy were disregarded, my neighborhood would suffer. Deterioration in air and water quality would affect our lives, causing harm to our bodies and financial loss. Exposure to harmful air pollutants could also harm our health, making our worries about safe drinking water even more pressing. As a result, I would be responsible for covering any medical expenses related to illnesses brought on by air and water contamination. In addition, exposure to air and water pollutants among my community’s agricultural workers and outdoor enthusiasts may have adverse health effects.
Conclusion
Finally, ignoring environmental policy could negatively affect my community’s air and water quality. It could cause physical and monetary harm to people in my community by contaminating the air and water, lowering air quality, and increasing health risks. Therefore, environmental laws must be followed to protect the quality of our air and water.
