Cross-Cultural Emotional Perceptions: Study Proposal

A suggested way to further understand the cultural values and emotional perceptions of African American and Chinese American cultures is to conduct a longitudinal study. This study will follow the emotional perceptions and cultural values of a diverse group of African American and Chinese American individuals for several years. The purpose of the study is to investigate how these perceptions and values change over time and how life events, such as changes in job status, family dynamics, and community involvement, affect them.

The hypothesis that this study aims to support is that African American participants will show more significant changes in emotional perception and cultural values over time compared to Chinese American participants. A mixed-methods approach, which combines both quantitative and qualitative data collection methods, will be used to collect data. The study will use quantitative data collection approaches where participants will complete a cultural values measure and an emotion assessment scale at the beginning of the study and then at regular intervals, such as every six months (Jilcha Sileyew, 2020). The researchers will use statistical procedures such as t-tests and ANOVA to evaluate the data and determine any changes in emotional perception and cultural values over time.

Qualitative data collection will also be used in this study. Participants will be interviewed regularly to gain a more in-depth understanding of how various life events have affected their emotional perceptions and cultural values. Researchers will then use qualitative data analysis techniques to identify patterns and themes in the interview data. The study aims to provide a more comprehensive understanding of how cultural values and emotional perceptions change over time and how various life events affect them. This study will also address the challenges of previous studies by including a more diverse sample and tracking participants over time.

In conclusion, a longitudinal study tracking the emotional perceptions and cultural values of African American and Chinese American individuals will be helpful. When undertaken over several years, it will provide valuable insights into how these perceptions and values change over time and how life events affect them. The mixed-methods approach used in this study will help in providing both quantitative and qualitative data, making it a more comprehensive study.
