Introduction
I am so glad that D.A.R.E classes helped me to learn new exciting things about life and decision-making. I am thankful for the officers explaining this because it will make my and my classmates’ lives happier! D.A.R.E classes helped me to learn essential things about the dangers of alcohol, cigarettes, vaping, and why it is important to make the right choices.
Alcohol
The first thing that was new to me during the D.A.R.E. class is the dangers of drinking alcohol. It is illegal to drink it if you are not 21 years old, so school students are not allowed to use it or they will go to jail. It is illegal for many reasons, as it causes memory and coordination loss, poor reflexes, and increases the risk of death. I learned that alcohol makes you act strangely, and it can put other people and a person who is drunk at risk, so I will not be trying it.
Drugs
I learned that smoking cigarette and vaping is very harmful to your health. When you try to smoke once, you will want to smoke again, and quitting will be very difficult. This addiction makes it easy to get lung, throat, or stomach cancer, and heart disease. All these diseases are due to the nicotine in cigarettes. Over 400,000 American people are dying because of smoking-related causes each year. I don’t want to get sick because it’s terrifying, and it’s always better not to smoke. Thank you, D.A.R.E, for teaching me this lesson!
Making the right choices
D.A.R.E helped me learn the importance of making the right decisions and thinking for myself. It is very great to have your own opinion and to never be pressured to do what I do not want to do. If a friend is asking you if you want to drink alcohol, you can say suggest doing something else like playing ball. This way, you can make the right choice and try helping your friend to do the same. Your friends can be mad at you as a part of negative consequences, but you will be healthy and will not be keeping secrets from your family as a part of positive consequences.
Conclusion
To sum up, D.A.R.E helped me to learn many great things about the dangers of alcohol and smoking. The last thing that I learned was that making the right choices are very important, and it is easy to do! I am very grateful to D.A.R.E officers for teaching me how to stay positive and safe.
