Depression Treatment Variants in the US

Depression treatment in the U.S. varies based on health practitioners’ preferences. Some prefer drugs as the ultimate solution, whereas others embrace therapy. Regardless of the approach, severe ordeals of depression are treatable provided that the patients remain positive and are dedicated to adopting the different educational strategies as advised by therapists. Therefore, there is a debate regarding the best formula for depression treatment whereby some argue for using drugs, whereas others are advocating for therapy.

Therapists gather critical information about the depression level of a patient. There are individuals who a healthcare practitioner diagnoses to be in their early, mid, and late stages of depression. According to Fountoulakis et al., the use of drugs as a depression solution is useful for clients who are in their mid to late stages of depression (196). Drugs such as serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors (SNRIs), tricyclic antidepressants (TCAs), and dopamine reuptake inhibitors are essential for patients in chronic stages of depression (Halverson et al. 1). Therefore, drugs provide an excellent result among patients with developed depression.

Therapy plays a prudent role in enhancing recovery among depression patients. Denotatively, therapy is an act of one-on-one sessions and interaction with an expert. However, recent research presents an understanding that group therapy is equally effective (Fountoulakis et al. 204). Understandably, it is significant noting that individual and group therapy help create a concrete relationship between depressed people and other persons, developing a sense of individualized attention.

Conclusively, it is paramount to mention that the treatment of depression in the U.S varies. Notably, both drugs and therapy are excellent depression treatment options. Practitioners should scrutinize patients to understand their different depression levels. It remains the responsibility of the therapist to identify the best choice for other persons. Above all, there should be a public campaign and conduction of seminars in higher learning institutions, teaching individuals to live within their means and avoid incidents that can lead to anxiety development.

Depression of the Elderly

Other options can be adapted to help the elderly out of the depression ordeals. According to research, medication mismanagement is a devastating growing public health concern among older people (Sukhato et al. 1). Education is one of the critical strategies that can be adapted to support older people to regain their mental health. Understandably, depression is a mood disorder that causes persistent loss of interest and sadness among individuals. Thus, educating the audience can heavily develop a sense of association and beneficial interaction.

It is the role of the health practitioners and therapists, in this case, to create different authentic formulas that can be used to educate the elderly. As Sukhato et al. opine, the elderly should be taught concerning recognizing the potential dangers in the home and the actual ability to distinguish between safe and risky behavior (3). The older persons should be educated about the approaches they need to exhibit and the real-life challenges they should expect in life, hence not developing stress, leading to severe depression. Therefore, education is a critical option for medication for depression declination among the elderly.

The elderly can be educated regarding the approaches they can exhibit to keep themselves fit and stress-free. Sukhato et al. allude that it is the daily minor instances of stress that subsequently lead to acute depression (4). The aged can be taught about the necessity of engaging in little physical exercises to reduce the chances of developing depression. The old people should understand the different formulas they can apply to refresh their minds. Connectedly, the elderly should be taught about the specific exciting and straightforward options that can increase older people’s happiness degrees to defeat anxiety.

Conclusively, education is an alternative approach to medication in preventing depression among older people. The elderly can be taught the importance of physical activities. Education is one of the alternatives to medication in the treatment of depression among older persons. Besides, what has been done to reduce incidents of depression among the elderly is taking them to care homes. The aged individuals are appropriately attended to by nurses and even interact among themselves, hence avoiding loneliness.
