Proposed Title of the Program
“Test Preparation Mastery: Developing Test-Taking Skills for Success in Math”
Certification exams test knowledge, expertise, and pedagogical skills for successful teaching. Exams like these verify that an aspiring teacher possesses a minimum level of skills and abilities, thereby improving students’ education. Moreover, regulatory agencies often require certification exams to obtain teaching licensure or certification. By passing these exams, aspiring teachers may be eligible to teach in public schools, thus broadening their career options in education and increasing their employment prospects.
For this logic model, I propose a test-preparation mastery program housed at a private tutoring facility (a hotel conference room). It offers instruction in standardized test preparation specifically for teacher certification, for aspiring teachers who want to teach Math. It is a vital component of the company’s offerings, augmenting existing tutoring programs. The program is accessible both in-person and online, enabling participants nationwide to participate.
Purpose of the Program
The program is designed to improve the standardized test preparation levels of potential teachers as they aim to pass the certification exam. Test preparation mastery aims to equip participants with the skills, techniques, and understanding needed to achieve top scores on these crucial exams, enabling potential teachers to succeed in their chosen field of expertise.
Target Audience
This program’s target audience includes college students about to graduate and in their last year of formal education, as well as people seeking licensure in the field of mathematics. The program is tailored to individuals of diverse backgrounds and skill levels, providing individualized support and instruction necessary for their individual success.
Enrollment
The estimated enrollment for this program is roughly 70 students every eight weeks, depending on seasonal demand and marketing campaigns. The program offers group lessons and individualized tutoring, providing a customized educational experience for each individual.
Assessment Tools
The assessment will include both formative and summative components, resulting in an objective evaluation of participants’ achievements. Formative assessment will be held at the end of each week, except the last one. At the end of weeks 1-7, a variety of assessments will be used to diversify the process of checking the results and make it more engaging for the participants. Tests, quizzes, peer assessments, concept maps, and practical assignments will be used to assess understanding of the program’s course. Summative assessment will be held at the end of week 8. It will be held as a comprehensive test with multiple components: a written practical assignment, a self-reflection essay, and a research paper.
Assumptions
The program is expected to play a beneficial role in the professional preparation of those who intend to work as educators in the field of math. At the same time, it has the potential to examine the relationships among knowledge, self-efficacy, and the decision to become a math teacher (Cribbs et al., 2021). Content knowledge is regarded as an important factor in math teacher preparation (Schmidt et al., 2020). Hence, the program is assumed to promote a successful career for those who aim to become educators.
External Factors
Despite the anticipated positive developments in the program, external factors can still impede its success. Firstly, government regulations and policies can affect the scope of the program. Any changes in regulations concerned with teacher certification can directly challenge the program’s development by necessitating alterations to the content and/or structure of the existing curriculum. Next, educational policies across states and districts can pose challenges for the proposed endeavor, as teachers in different locations may have distinct requirements for knowledge and skills.
Another external factor is technological advancements, which occur regularly and can influence the program’s design and focus. Other crucial aspects involve continuous research in math education, demographic changes, economic factors, community expectations, and overall global trends in education. Each of these issues, separately or in combination, can necessitate changes in the program, which will slow down the expected positive outcomes.
Outcomes and Impact
Short
By summer 2024, 50% of participants will demonstrate an improved understanding of test-taking techniques for math exams. By summer 2024, 100% of participants will be offered flexibility through being able to access the program both online and in person. By summer 2024, the program will be fully equipped to provide tailored assistance depending on participants’ skill levels and backgrounds. By the end of summer 2024, about 70 participants will be enrolled every eight weeks. By mid-summer 2024, 95-100% of participants will give positive feedback on the program’s success.
Intermediate
By winter 2024, 70% of participants will show increased confidence in test-taking abilities. By fall 2024, participation rates will increase by 25% compared to summer 2024 as a result of improved accessibility options. By winter 2024, each participant will be able to set an individual research schedule. By winter 2024, enrollment rates will be steady due to effective marketing. By fall/winter 2024, the program will be acknowledged as a reliable source for teachers’ preparation for certification.
Long
By fall 2025, mathematics teacher certification scores will reach 90%. By fall 2025, the program will be accessible in 50-60 locations around the country, attracting larger groups of prospective educators. By summer 2025, the retention rate will reach 80%. By fall 2026, enrollment growth will increase by 50% compared to 2025. By fall 2027, the program will become the leading resource for preparation for math teacher certification exams.
The program “Test Preparation Mastery” has outcomes that are specifically tailored to help prospective teachers be ready for certification examinations.
Goals
The program’s short-term goal is to improve participants’ comprehension of efficient test-taking techniques designed specifically for mathematics examinations. This covers methods including time management, approaches to problem-solving, and exam format familiarity (Anderson, 2020). The intermediate goals of the program concentrate on creating a positive learning atmosphere that increases participants’ self-confidence in their test-taking skills as time goes on (Burns, 2023). Increased participation rates result from participants receiving the support they need to confidently take on their certification tests through tailored support and individual study strategies.
The program’s long-term goal is to help participants achieve tangible academic achievement by helping them score higher on math teacher certification examinations. Additionally, the program of study can reach a wider range of prospective teachers nationally by providing accessible alternatives, including online and in-person teaching (Rusilowati et al., 2020). The program’s reputation for teacher certification exam preparation will grow as enrollment rates remain steady and positive feedback is received, positioning it as a leading expert in the field. The combined results aim to enhance the career prospects and success rates of prospective math teachers.
