Discussion of Individual Differences and Emotions

Introduction

Without any doubt, a whole range of emotions lives in any person. It can be joy, anger, happiness, resentment, delight, hatred, and many others. Depending on the personality, nature, essence, qualities, intelligence, genetic factors, or life situation, each emotion makes itself felt, and each individual manifests it in their way. However, despite the complexity and versatility of the human personality and soul, one can also control emotions at work, school, or personal life. My thoughts and reflections regarding the course textbook’s chapter about individual differences and emotions are the main aspects that will be discussed in this essay.

Reflection on the Chapter 3

The Reason for Choosing the Topic and Its Importance for Me

Primarily, I would like to mention why I chose the “individual differences and emotions” topic from the book by Angelo Kinicki and Mel Fugate. For example, it seems exciting and fascinating to me to study, examine and analyze human nature and its most essential components, including feelings and emotions, intelligence, and personal qualities. Moreover, this course textbook’s chapter is critical and significant for me since it helped me expand my knowledge, ideas, belief, and views about the essence of human emotions. Thus, I learned a lot about myself and other people, as well as their patterns of behavior and actions.

What I Learn

Undoubtedly, reading the chapter has given me some food for the mind and new knowledge that I can apply in practice. For instance, I was able to assimilate information about the meaning of emotions, internal and external factors influencing their expression, and the consequences of using certain emotions in my personal life and work processes. I began to understand that the manifestation of specific feelings is influenced by an extensive range of personal, unique characteristics, experiences, and genetic factors. Every person can show completely unexpected emotions in a given situation, which cannot be guessed at once.

Practical Application of the Acquired Knowledge

In my opinion, the book is replete with many different theoretical and practical tips. However, the decision that I will undoubtedly apply in my work is accuracy and a scientific approach to personalities. For example, according to Kinicki and Fugate (88), a person should not be described only based on someone’s individual preferences and wishes because this will be a fundamentally incorrect characteristic. The researchers emphasize that this is definitely, a complicated task. Still, it is already possible to determine an individual’s personality according to the principle of “Big Five Personality Dimensions” at the general level (Kinicki and Fugate 89). Thus, the precision, rigor, and objectivity in assessing colleagues and employees will help me identify their strengths and weaknesses, analyze, draw certain conclusions and influence them when such an opportunity arises.

Conclusion

In conclusion to all of the above, I would like to mention the following key elements. Indeed, human nature is one of the most complex and mysterious, and one should use several methods and means to evaluate it. Each person is unique in their way and has uncommon and distinctive features that, to an indirect or direct extent, influence the manifestation of specific feelings and emotions. Accordingly, the expression of a particular inner experience is challenging to hide since it is reflected on the body and the face, the parts that the interlocutor pays attention to at first. Nevertheless, even these moments can be handled and controlled, and one can also change them for the “better.” For example, the 3rd chapter of the book includes many useful, important and meaningful information and tips, helping to understand these phenomena more deeply and thoroughly, teaching people how to interact with them correctly and manage in life, work or study.
