Diversity in a Global Sales Team

Diversity is bringing people of all backgrounds into the organization to work effectively and efficiently. Diversity involves understanding, valuing, and using the differences in each individual in a business. For a group of individuals to work as a team, they have to understand each other, then work together to achieve the organization’s goals and targets. For people to work as a team, there has to be diversity in the individual’s background, culture, and experiences in order to view challenges and problems from a wide range of perspectives.

For an organization to create a winning team, all aspects of diversity have to be included. There has to be cross-generation, that is, including people from across all the generations in the team. This helps to bring in a lot of experiences into the team because there are more skills from the different individuals. The team is able to understand what each member of the society really requires and how he or she would like it to be done. This helps the organization to have products that are tailor-made for all aspects of society. These include the old and the young, as they are properly understood by the team (Sondra, 2003, par. 3).

Diversity is not only in race, color, and culture but in the diversity of every individual, team builder, and leader. Followers of diversity combine those talents from individuals to form the best. Talents are found in all populations, and for the business to be successful, it has to have the best talent. The workplace has to include all, free from discrimination or harassment. This creates an environment that is comfortable and gives each individual opportunity to express his or her idea. The organization is also open to a different wide range of perspectives and is flexible to the different solutions that might be developed by the team. In order for the organization to be successful, we have to understand our customers; hence it has to be reflected in the organization’s structure.

There has to be an inclusion of the GLBT, that is, the gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender in the team bringing in new and good talent. The team is able to understand them. Hence the organization is able to reach new market segments and increase its productivity. This also helps the consumers understand that there is no discrimination according to one’s sexual orientation and gender identity. This group of individuals brings in a new ideology and helps in better understanding of those clients in the GLBT. A company that has diversity in each of its negotiating sessions is seen to have values that treat everyone with respect and gives equal opportunity to everyone (Andreas, 2009, par. 5).

In conclusion, innovation is the key to success in every organization. A workforce that is open to a diversity of views has the key to innovation. For an organization to reach diverse people, it has to have its structures diverse and inclusive enough since people are the key to business growth. For maximum productivity and success in an organization, there has to be a dynamic workforce. The workers want an organization that believes in them regardless of their background. For an organization to have a successful team, they have to believe in the uniqueness of every individual. That is, every person has a strong point. A team combines those strong points and builds a strong team producing the best.
