Ethical Issues: Disruptive Effect on Society

Ethical issues can threaten the integrity and reputation of the organization and disrupt society. Ethics are tough to follow in the world of social media and precise attention to companies’ actions. Luckily, there are laws and regulations made for the staff that reduce unethical behavior in the workplace. Ethical issues may have a disruptive effect on society, as seen in the recent light of the Black Lives Matter movement.

Fraud is a critical issue disrupting the activity of any business, regardless of its size. It affects all aspects of the company, from its finances to human resources. The larger the company, the more difficult it is to keep track of all financial operations, and easier for fraud to be carried out, making business audit more complicated. To prevent fraud, it is vital to set strict regulations in the company and make employees aware of them, internal control and constant monitoring are the most effective ways of fraud prevention.

The societal impact of fraud influences the economic state of families and may even destroy them. Frequently individuals organizing fraud schemes target programs with vulnerable victims that consequently may steal their identity and ruin lives (Commonwealth Fraud Prevention Centre, 2020). Educating communities on fraud avoidance strategy is a feasible way to contribute to fraud prevention. Social media platforms are a powerful asset that can inform society on how to avoid being a victim of fraud.

Sexual harassment negatively affects the organization, staff’s attitude to top-management, external reputation, and many other spheres. Weak corporate culture, lack of awareness about sexual harassment regulation, and no internal employee control are the leading causes of inappropriate behavior. It is the employer’s primary responsibility to prevent workplace impropriety and ensure strict rules and punishment for aggressors. Clear policies combined with anti-harassment staff training will create a safe work environment and contribute to sexual harassment prevention strategies.

Sexual harassment happens in not only the workplace, but also in any public areas. Many women feel uncomfortable wearing certain clothes or being out at late hours because of fear of sexual harassment. Such a toxic culture, with no clear laws, provides the society with constant fear and makes the aggressors more prone to committing the harassment. It is vital to spread awareness on all social platforms about the consequences of sexual harassment and provide people with the feeling of a safe community.
