In contemporary society, evidence-based nursing is very important because of the increased public demand for nurses and other medical professionals to be held accountable for their medical practices. Besides, the evidence-based practice should be adopted by the healthcare centers to ensure that quality services are provided to the patients, and therefore it is necessary for nurses to do evidence-based nursing (Townsend, 2014).
Consequently, this calls for all nurses to do thorough research to be able to provide quality healthcare to patients. However, evidence-based nursing is very crucial because nurses are involved in decision-making and must therefore follow the ethics code.
Arguably, the practice will improve the quality of services offered by nurses since decisions will be made based on research and evidence. Primarily, physicians should be involved in improving the quality of activities that take place in the intensive care unit (ICU). Physicians are mandated to review changes in what medications patients take as well as diagnosing clinical conditions to ensure that proper prescription is provided (Townsend, 2014). Further, physicians also have to review the medical information of a patient, and thus it is important to have him, or her take part in the implementation of the ICU initiative.
All nurses should be determined to provide quality services to patients. Therefore, nurses should switch to evidence-based nursing to ensure they meet the demands of their patients. Besides, they should be willing to engage in continuous research to be able to practice evidence-based nursing (Townsend, 2014). The nurse manager should encourage all nurses to practice evidence-based nursing through conducting research training.
On the other hand, the ICU unit should provide training to all personnel in health centers and educate them on the importance of adopting the evidence-based practice. Additionally, the unit should be designed in a way that provides an avenue for every medical personnel to actively participate in the ICU activities. Doctors, pharmacists, and surgeons should be involved in implementing the ICU initiative to ensure that quality services to patients are delivered.
