Evolution and Personal Impact of Electronic and Printed Mass Media

Evolution of the Two Selected Mass Media Formats

Electronic and printed mass media are common information sources for modern people. In the early fifteenth century, Johannes Gutenberg created a movable printing press (Ayuningdyah, 2022). It became a mass press, which, due to developed transportation, was received broadly by the audience. Friedrich Koenig industrialized printed media, connecting the steam engine with the printing press (Ayuningdyah, 2022).

Further developments in materials duplications allowed people to buy presses at lower prices (Ayuningdyah, 2022). The World Wide Web’s invention ensured the digital spread of information (Ayuningdyah, 2022). The Internet has made it possible to read the press on electronic devices globally (Ayuningdyah, 2022).

Electronic mass media today offer both press and social media, news, and video channels, such as YouTube (Ayuningdyah, 2022). Printed media is represented in newspapers, magazines, and books, which can sometimes be found even in electronic versions. All of these turned into mass media, which can be observed today.

Personal Influence of the Two Mass Media Types

These two types of media have personally influenced me and my friends. Even though electronic media replace printed sources, I am still exposed to reading printed references. They have a positive and relaxing effect on me, especially in my free time. Electronic media, on the contrary, sometimes hurt procrastination. I usually spend too much time on social media, chatting with people and reading different news. Balancing real and digital life is essential, as it can have adverse outcomes.

Impact of the Two Mass Media Types on Friends, Family, and Co-Workers

My friend’s family went through a tough period caused by zero interaction with each other. Each member spent more time on social media than with relatives. It ruined their relationships, communication, and interpersonal skills. An example of printed media impact is my friend’s sibling, who reads a lot of journals and press and learns to analyze information strategically. In these two cases, the electronic media played a negative role, while the printed media had more positive results.
