Financial Factors of Doctor Behavior in the US and UK Healthcare Systems

Introduction

The healthcare systems of the United Kingdom and the United States have different aspects of the work of the trend. Physicians’ principles differ from country to country, so ethical and legal standards naturally prescribe dissimilar behavior. To correctly assess the acting patterns of doctors from two countries, it is necessary to assess how much external and internal factors influence them. The habits of similar doctors from the US and the UK mainly differ due to the dispersion in health care systems.

Funding

An analysis of aspects of doctors’ work will help to understand why their actions vary greatly. In the US, non-profit healthcare institutions are funded through philanthropy and government grants (Halpern et al., 2022). Because of this, doctors have low salaries or even work as volunteers and are lowly motivated for treatment.

The situation in the UK is the opposite, as the state pays all the healthcare system costs. Therefore, doctors in the UK do not need to be distracted by other work and can fully concentrate on helping patients. In the US, medical staff are more interested in patients in their clinics (Halpern et al., 2022). This is the main difference that determines the behavior of doctors in these two countries.

Payment

In addition, the payment system in the UK is quite different from that in the US. English doctors are paid a progressive salary that depends on how many people have been treated (Nersisyan & Wray, 2019). This further motivates doctors to work harder and improve their professional skills. Since the National Health Service was created to ensure that all people, regardless of their financial situation, receive well-deserved help, it is in its interests to provide doctors with good conditions. In UK hospitals, doctors are fully-fledged employees who are paid a salary, and therefore, they must try to justify the efforts of the system created.

Conclusion

In conclusion, it should be said that the differences in behavior are due to motivational factors, which are lower in the US than in non-profit hospitals. This is because doctors often work there without pay, which is parallel to a private clinic. Such a significant difference is a key aspect of why doctors in non-profit hospitals in the United States are less interested in providing medical care, so they do not pay enough attention to the patients. On the contrary, the state fully funds the UK system; thus, it is free from this pitfall.
