Nowadays, being ethical is highly important in the multicultural environment, as people tend to have different opinions regarding similar issues. At the same time, the countries are interested in cooperation, and international trade is gaining its popularity. The phenomenon of globalization has driven the need to develop a universal approach that can be easily applied in different contexts to avoid conflicts and misunderstandings (Gurnani, 2015). Apart from being beneficial from the economic and cultural perspectives, the trend of globalization raises a plethora of challenges such as the issue with the human resources management and the lack of communication (Gurnani, 2015). Based on the factors reflected above, I can freely claim that the principles of global ethics are highly important, as they not only regulate the relationships between different countries but also have a beneficial impact on the development of the nations and contribute to the growing significance of trust and respect in the medical sphere. However, I strongly believe that the diversity of the existent theories creates confusion, and adjusting them will assist in finding a universal approach.
In the first place, some theoretical dogmas underline a strong connection between the concepts of co-operation and ethics. In this case, the leaders of the countries have to change their attitudes towards the representatives of other nations to reach mutual improvement and development of the countries (A new global ethics, 2015). Consequently, understanding a strong bond between these principles will help create moral and universal ethical concepts of co-operation and co-existence (A new global ethics, 2015). It could be said that discovering ethics at the global level will not only have a positive impact on the development of the countries but also will assist in strengthening economy and finance internationally since the nations will have a well-established network of exchanging goods.
Speaking specifically of the medical sphere, one cannot underestimate the significance of the universal principles of bioethics (McCormick, 1998). The main concepts pertain to respecting the autonomy of the patient, not causing any harm to one’s health, trying to find the most appropriate interventions to improve one’s physical and mental condition, and using the general principles of justice to resolve the conflicts (McCormick, 1998). These general ideas offer guidance to the physicians and nurses globally, cultivate patient-centered approach, establish trusting relationships between different stakeholders, and minimize medical errors. Consequently, their role cannot be underestimated.
Nonetheless, apart from having the well-established general principles of global ethics, the existence of a plethora of theories creates confusion in the sphere of the healthcare. For example, cosmopolitanism underlines the fact that the ethical concepts are universal while the representatives of the anti-cosmopolitan movement claim that they are highly linked to cultural specifics (Stampleton, Schroder-Back, Laaser, Meershoek, & Popa, 2014). In turn, the dogmas of preference utilitarianism emphasize the significance of satisfying one’s preferences and wants while the hedonistic concepts aim at maintaining one’s prosperous living (Stampleton et al., 2014). Nonetheless, despite discovering the development of ethics from different angles, all theories emphasize that general ethical guidelines have to be followed to avoid misunderstandings.
Overall, a combination of the factors depicted above underlines that the principles of global ethics are vehemently important both in business and medical spheres. It could be said that they assist the countries in cooperation while avoiding intercultural conflicts. Nevertheless, the existence of a plethora of ethical theories questions whether the universal concepts can be introduced. Apart from that, I believe that it is possible to develop a general ethical framework, as it will help countries develop technologically and economically. Simultaneously, the number of interpersonal and international conflicts will be minimized since the countries will aim at mutual prosperity. Meanwhile, adjusting the dogmas of anti-cosmopolitanism will help save cultural heritage and create a unique blend with ethics.
