Healthcare Problems of Modern Society

Introduction

Human health depends not only on medical care, but also on social, economic, psychological, industrial, environmental, and other factors. They all are interconnected and, in recent years, are changing in an unfavorable direction. This led to a significant deterioration in public health and the negative dynamics of demographic processes. For example, in many countries, the birth rate is getting lower, and the mortality is getting higher. The life expectancy is also decreasing, as well as the population growth. This is also manifested in the population incidence increase and in the children’s and adults’ physical development deterioration. Consequently, the current and future labor and defense potential of society is declining. The purpose of this paper is to determine some of the modern healthcare problems.

Main body

Health protection is a combination of political, economic, legal, social, cultural, scientific, medical, hygienic, and anti-epidemic measures. Their purpose is to preserve and strengthen the physical and mental health of each person. They help people maintain a long active life and receive medical and social assistance in case of loss of health. Unfortunately, not all states have an organized health care system. Moreover, researchers assume that “the determinants of health risks and factors that affect the efficacy of health protection are often inter-and multidisciplinary (Chan, 2019, p. 2). It means that the government should have a complex approach to achieve success in this issue.

In many countries, there is a problem of regional differences in the financing of free medical care for the population. As a result, the equality of citizens in receiving state-guaranteed free medical care is not ensured. Niles (2016) states that “persons living in poverty are more likely to be in poor health and less likely to use the healthcare system compared to those with incomes above the poverty line” (p. 11). However, this may seem to be a violation of human rights, and public health should be one of the key interests of the government. Other critical public health problems are weak incentives for the work of medical personnel, low efficiency of using available resources, and depreciation of equipment in medical institutions. Thus, the effectiveness of the industry in the face of a shortage of finances can be achieved through the concentration of resources in priority areas. They must be determined based on socio-economic criteria, taking into account the degree of impact of various types of medical care on the level of public health.

The state must provide citizens with the right to health care regardless of gender, race, nationality, language, social origin, official position, place of residence, religion, or other circumstances (Morrison, 2018). Citizens have the right to regularly receive reliable and timely information on factors that contribute to the preservation of health or harm it. This includes information on the sanitary-epidemiological condition of the area of residence, rational nutritional standards, products, services, and other factors.

Conclusion

The public health system, as an organizational construct of a social institution, affects the formation and effective use of human capital. This is how the social prerequisites for economic growth and ensuring the competitiveness of the economies of countries in the world market are formed. It is necessary to bring society and the state to the realization that health is one of the most important aspects of life. In addition, it can help achieve national social prestige in the world community and a high indicator of the viability of society.
