Nonetheless, it is relevant for any society to assert that truthfulness in politics is possible, and not only politicians but also public opinion are responsible for it. After all, political honesty — and honest politicians — are more likely in a society distinguished by culture, tolerance, solidarity, and equal rights for everyone. Honesty, fairness, and objectivity are the critical principles in politics to be followed.
Argumentation
Primarily, a struggle for truth, both internal and external, may not be easy. Still, political success is often associated with efforts based on honesty and integrity. Sometimes it seems that a bland, harmless lie about salvation can improve a situation, and most leaders will prefer to choose the path of least resistance. However, one deception can lead to another, more severe delusion, and as a result, the minds of citizens are clogged and confused. As practice shows, fraud gradually destroys one’s sense of self-worth, and deception may cause a feeling of inferiority, making a liar unfree. Consequently, no theory and analysis can free statesmen from bouts of self–criticism, from asking themselves questions about what is honest and what is not when faced with a political choice.
Practical political activity not only can but also must be consistent with the principles of honesty. For instance, anti-democratic movements flourish when voters do not trust leaders and consider them dishonest. An honest politician professes pragmatism based on principles, on having the courage to say unpleasant things, but always at the same time approach the matter constructively. Indeed, irresponsible criticism – a passion for exposing problems and making them public without a desire to offer an acceptable solution — is perhaps the most common form of dishonesty in politics. In democratic countries, if politicians who criticize others while in opposition turn out to be ineffective when they come to power, then voters can punish them for dishonesty — and often do — at the next vote.

Thus, summarizing the above, it is essential to recognize that honesty and fairness in politics is a fundamental and significant phenomena, without which it is impossible to implement an effective and productive government. Politicians who adhere to these moral elements are in harmony not only with themselves but also with society, doing their job as good leaders should. Therefore, one should sum it up that as Miguel de Cervantes said: “Honesty is the best policy.”
