How to Help Homeless People?

Introduction

Homeless people are one of the big problems of our society. They suffer because of the lack of food, poor clothes, and absence of homes to hide from bad weather or other factors. For this reason, I believe that people should unite to help such individuals as together we can achieve different goals. As for me, I think that the main ways I can assist and change homeless people are to become educated, show respect, and donate.

Education

People become homeless because of various reasons. They cannot find a good job and earn money, or they have problems with their families, or they use substances such as alcohol or drugs (Savedge). In other words, it can be difficult to understand the real causes for this fact. That is why I think that a good education will help me to assist such people as I will get more opportunities and chances to resolve their problems. First of all, education will improve my knowledge of the central reasons why people become homeless. I am sure that understanding the causes is a key to resolving a problem. That is why when I get the appropriate education, I will become more effective in dealing with this problem and analyzing it. I will use all information for future projects devoted to the same problem. Second, education is needed to build a successful career, which is demanded to become a respected member of society and influence its members. Currently, I am limited in my opportunities to help all homeless people as I do not have money and cannot ask other partners to use their funds. That is why education is needed to find a prestigious and well-paid job and work hard to help people who do not have shelter or food. Finally, educated people can create projects or public campaigns that attract attention to a certain issue (“Tips for Helping New Yorkers Experiencing Homelessness”). Today, society prefers to ignore homeless people and the conditions under which they live. That is why good education will provide me with the knowledge needed to change this situation and start a new campaign that can make communities better and help homeless people all over the state. These reasons prove why I view education as one of the ways to address this question.

Respect

Respect is another important factor that can help homeless people and resolve the problem. From my own experience, I can say that most individuals prefer to avoid contact with this group. They ignore the homeless, do not look at them, and do not listen to their requests. It can be very humiliating and hurt feelings. All human beings deserve to be respected, and I think that it is one of the essential ideas. If you appreciate a person, it guarantees that he or she feels dignity and realizes that he/she is a human. It is very important for people who do not have a home, food, and clothes. Respect is the only thing they have, and ignoring them people cause serious harm (Savedge). Moreover, I think that dignity is a good motivator to move forward and improve your current state. That is why homeless people should be respected. If you do not ignore a person, you can talk to him/ her and get to know about problems he/she has at the moment (Lingan). As I stated previously, people can become homeless because of numerous reasons, and if you communicate, you understand them. It means that I can treat this category with respect, encourage my peers to act in the same way, and understand their pain and troubles. It is vital for cooperation. Care and sharing are also essential for helping people. In other words, if you have a good attitude towards a person and know his/her problems, you have the desire and opportunity to help. That is why I think that by moving from disregard to respect, we can resolve the question of homeless people. They will become motivated to move forward, start looking for solutions and find a job. In other words, we will change the existing situation and create a new, better one.

Donations

Finally, I believe that donations are a good way to help homeless people and change their lives for the better. It is not difficult, and everyone can do it. People usually have things they do not wear or food they do not use, and they become spoiled. It means that the community has resources that can promote positive change and improve the living conditions of people who are in difficult situations. First of all, it is important to donate clothing. Most homeless people we see in the streets have worn things and poor shoes. They suffer from cold or hot weather and can become ill. At the same time, many households have clothes that will be thrown away. For this reason, I think that we should start donating such things to people who do not have homes as it will bring much satisfaction to them and improve their living conditions. Moreover, to make donating more effective, I can cooperate with other community members and ask them if they have blankets, books, kitchen items, or other things they do not need. For us, these objects might seem unnecessary; however, for people who do not have a home, every little thing is necessary (“What Are the Best Ways of Helping Homeless People?”). That is why collecting them, I can help this group. Finally, I am sure that it is vital to cooperate with special shelters to make donations more effective (Babcock 45). I know that there are special places where homeless people are provided with support, food, and warm clothes and drinks. However, such organizations might also need help as their resources are limited. They can have the information about what things are required at the moment and provide the list to all volunteers. For this reason, I think that by visiting such centers and helping them, I can do my best to help homeless people and resolve at least some of their problems.

Conclusion

In conclusion, I want to say that helping homeless people is a critical task. They are also human beings, and they feel pain, confusion, and are unhappy. My resources are limited at the moment, but I think that I still can make some contributions. First, I should become an educated person to create a good career and help these people. Second, I should treat such people with respect and make other people change their attitudes. Finally, I can donate things that are not needed at the moment and cooperate with shelters. These simple but necessary activities will help to make our communities better.
