Farms
By farming, people mange agricultural lands to feed the world. It affects ecosystem by releasing carbon to the atmosphere and resulting in a loss of biodiversity. According to the graph provided in the activity, agricultural land use is increasing gradually since the 1950s (Howard Hughes Medical). It suggests that the use of agricultural land will continue to grow, altering the ecosystem. People should look at the condition of soil and near water sources to determine whether people are changing the local environment by farming. At an individual level, a farmer can monitor land and its condition to limit its impact.
Deforestation
Deforestation reduces biodiversity and habitats, thus preventing species from adapting to global warming. Due to increased production and population, deforestation is increasing sharply since the 1950s (Howard Hughes Medical). Therefore, deforestation needs to be controlled and managed in a way that is not detrimental to the environment. People should look at the number of forests before and now to determine whether the local environment is changing or not. It also important to measure carbon footprint to indicate the impact of human development. An individual can reduce deforestation by signing petitions against deforestation.
Overfishing
Overfishing reduces the number of fish and prevents the development of species. Fishes become underpopulated in the area, causing various ecological changes like a loss of biodiversity and harming other water species. According to the graph, overfishing is growing markedly since the 2000s (Howard Hughes Medical). It suggests about extinctions of some species and ecological changes in the ocean ecosystem. To indicate changes in the ocean due to overfishing, people can analyze biodiversity and the number of fishes. A person can influence overfishing by raising awareness about the problem on social media platforms and in local communities.
