Disaster risk management and sustainable development are some of the most significant aspects of an organization or government. The main objective of ensuring effective disaster risk management is to help prevent a disaster and mitigate a disastrous event to reduce its devastating effects on an individual. Some of the negative effects of a crisis on an individual include loss of life, long-term trauma, and economic losses (Duran, 2021). One of the most important components of effective crisis management is enhancing good internal crisis communication within the entity. This paper strives to highlight some of the importance of internal crisis communication to ensure effective crisis preparedness.
The firm’s stakeholders are the individuals who are the most affected both directly and indirectly by the negative impacts of a disaster and hence need to be considered during various internal crisis communications. The outbreak of the covid-19 was one of the most difficult crisis events to mitigate and affected all sectors across the world. The human resources within an organization were the most affected due to poor internal crisis communication within the firms (Duran, 2021). One of the critical reasons for enhancing effective internal crisis communication is to provide the human resources with concrete instructions that they can adhere to upon the occurrence of a crisis.
Another great importance of crisis communication is that it enables the employees to acquire various skills and concepts in dealing with different forms of disaster through training and embracing technology. Appropriate internal crisis communication also helps enhance the organization’s consistency which prevents the organization from recording huge losses. Disaster risk management also requires high levels of ethical codes of conduct. Good internal crisis communication helps enhance ethical crisis communication, which helps prevent individuals from sugarcoating bad news (Guth & Marsh, 2017). The main reason for ensuring productive internal crisis communication is to enhance disaster preparedness.
