Leadership and Organizational Change
The concept of leadership is interconnected with changes in the organization. The article’s authors have researched a wide range of literature on this topic from different angles. Based on this literature, Wanser and Luckel (2021) conclude the critical role of people in change and the impact of various changes on the organization. The importance of involving staff at all levels of the organization and valuing their opinions to prevent resistance to change is noted.
I agree with the authors that change cannot be universal for different organizations. On the other hand, this does not mean that organizations cannot learn from each other’s experiences. Although change management strategies differ, for an effective change plan to be implemented, the leaders within the company who will drive the innovation process must be engaged and interested in the change. The ability to communicate effectively, gain the trust of colleagues, and understand the importance of learning are key qualities for a leader.
Planned and Urgent Changes in Healthcare
It was interesting to learn that not only are planned changes beneficial for the organization, but also a combination of urgent and planned changes. In addition, it turned out that changes in healthcare organizations are the least frequent. The industry must be more involved in implementing changes to reduce medical errors and improve safety measures. A barrier to effective change implementation in healthcare organizations is the incompatible goals of leaders, which lead to different motivations and wrong incentives. Other barriers include a lack of communication, disrespect for others’ opinions, and a lack of organizational commitment.
The application of the topic studied by Wanser and Luckel (2021) is the measures that contribute to the effective implementation of change in an organization. These include defining the nature of the problem at the initial stage and identifying a common goal for all staff. The quality of the relationship between leaders and patience with the expectations of the results of change are also essential factors that influence the reshaping of the organization.
