The Intersex board has experienced a few significant processes during its existence. Initially, Chase asked her friend and colleague, Alice Dreger, to chair the board that consisted mainly of friends. However, the further development of business required to make this body more extended and professional. That is why Chase decided to invite activists, who were good at mission-related skills, and professionals to deal with economic, fundraising, and organizational tasks. The board performed its task successfully and the responsibilities were evenly shared, until Chase decided to hand over ISNA management to a new executive director, Monica Casper. A conflict emerged between Casper and the board because they could not share responsibilities and Casper decided to resign.
It is possible to suggest that the crisis in Intersex occurred because of inadequate leadership transfer from Chase to Casper. The process occurred because Chase wanted to enjoy her relationship with Mathias, meaning that a personal rather than organizational aspect was prevailing. Effective leadership is possible when a person has the required skills and competencies to be.
