PICOT Question: In the primary care setting, for women aged 40-55 (P), how effective is provider-initiated conversation regarding recommended screening guidelines and there benefits to detect breast cancer (I) verses not initiating conversation (C) in increasing patient participation in mammogram screenings for breast cancer (O) over a 6- month time period (T)?
Variables
The enhancement of patient participation rates in mammogram screening for breast cancer is the dependent variable that needs to be explored throughout the course of research extensively. The use of the provider-initiated conversation as the means of enhancing the efficacy of the communication between a nurse and a patient for the further increase in the levels of patient participation, in turn, must be regarded as the essential dependent variable to be considered in the course of the study.
Outcome Changes
The introduction of the provider-initiated conversation is assumed to have a positive effect on patients’ attitude toward the idea of mammogram screenings as the means of monitoring the possible development of breast cancer and its further prevention. The intervention mentioned above is bound to not only increase the instances of successful detection of breast cancer but also the levels of patients’ awareness about the subject matter (Alipour, Jannat, & Hosseini, 2014).
Impact
In the grand scheme of events, the tool mentioned above must help improve the process of communication between patients and nurses. As a result, the opportunities for treating not only breast cancer but also other health issues will be created. Furthermore, the suggested framework will give patients more agency and make them more independent since they will gain new knowledge and skills.
Feedback
The feedback will be collected with the help of surveys. Thus, the patients’ responsiveness toward the proposed intervention method will be detected. Consequently, the strategies for enhancing the patient-nurse communication will be designed. The specified tool is also bound to inform nurses about the required changes in the communication strategy so that the necessary information be delivered successfully.
