Middle-Range Nursing Theory: Analysis and Application

Introduction

The middle-range medical model provides a practical framework for dealing with complex issues. The hypothesis offers more precise facts, better empirical testing, and minimum abstract information. However, the theory provides descriptions, predictions, and interpretations of medical services. The approach provides viewpoints that instruct students on handling difficult and urgent situations and supports nursing solutions. The range concept is essential when justifications and executions are required in the nursing process. Additionally, the concept assists in directing evidence-based analysis to produce the best healthcare procedures and policies. Examples of middle-range clinical approaches include transitions, self-care, comfort, anxiety, compassion, and many more. This paper will discuss clinical nursing practice situations, health-related quality of life theory, the application of middle-range nursing theory, and other nursing practice situations and research.

Clinical Nursing Practice Situation

In 2020, I went for my initial clinical practice at the City Clinic Hospital. The management gave me the responsibility of managing and providing nursing care to Mr. Henry, a very prominent person in the United States. I had the chance to present myself as a nursing student to the patient. After talking to the ill person for a short while, I realized that Mr. Henry was suffering from a chronic disease and was not pleased with the care or treatment he received and the surroundings. I realized that Mr. Henry had certain operations that initiated great difficulty and suffering. Mr. Henry started coughing while I was helping him with his breakfast. I contacted my registered nurse and let them know what was happening. The healthcare professional can advise patients to ease their discomfort (Smith, 2019)). I remained in Mr. Henry’s room to watch for changes in the patient’s condition. Although I was cheering Mr. Henry and trying to make the ill individual feel at ease, I could hear the person coughing intermittently.

The habitat where a patient lives and a person’s qualities are the basic tenets of the self-care concept. The theory emphasizes how an ill individual’s numerous medical issues interact with the severity of their symptoms. Therefore, it aids in measuring and comprehending the patient’s actions and emotions, providing critical information for assessing their health. According to the notion, a patient’s behavior, attitudes, and aspirations can alter due to their surroundings (Fulmer et al., 2021). The client’s understanding of their symptoms determines their endurance threshold. The method permits medical professionals to evaluate a person’s state beyond biological markers. Furthermore, the hypothesis describes the patient’s medical condition using five health principles: biological variables, signs, performance, general views of health, and life satisfaction. The idea assumes that the patient’s features and the numerous practices are interconnected. The theory claims that a patient’s unique traits, including conduct as well as ethnic and religious elements, may have an impact on their vitality. Therefore, how a person views their situation is crucial to their healing.

Application of the Theory

The first step in implementing the health-related quality of existence concept in a medical setting is to evaluate an individual using philosophy’s notions of health. For instance, introducing a female counseling service can help a lady biologically predisposed to cardiovascular illness to remain physically active (Valentine, Sekula & Lynch, 2020). As a result, clients might be more motivated to adhere to any workouts or treatments that doctors suggest, which can positively affect how they perceive their health. However, to adopt the approach, medical professionals must be aware of the person’s non-biological characteristics, such as a sedentary lifestyle. Furthermore, to administer treatment to the patient effectively, the healthcare clinician must also be knowledgeable of the facilities and local resources that are readily available.

Application of the Theory in other Nursing Situations

Health-related quality of life (HRQOL) measurements can assist healthcare sectors in evaluating the impact of avoidable illness, accidents, and impairments. Additionally, the measurements offer essential information about the connections between HRQOL and side effects. Monitoring HRQOL can aid in tracking the achievement of the state’s health goals (Butcher, 2021). Medical officials are accountable for recognizing and determining the accumulative number of complicated ethical issues. However, they cannot solve issues without using a competent judgment procedure that considers various perspectives. Applying a methodical judgment process can be essential for leaders, personnel, and shareholders when dealing with ethically difficult matters. Healthcare leaders must adopt ethical decision-making when resolving a disagreement or executing an ambiguous judgment involving conflicting values, including those of the individual, the institution, the field, and society. The moral norms of fairness, sovereignty, and moral virtue, including organizational and occupational ethical norms and codes, must be considered by executives participating in the decision-making exercise.

Nursing Research

Nursing practitioners’ understanding of medical analysis and ability to relate concepts to healthcare practice is crucial for providing quality and cost-effective services. Medical fact-finding is essential because patients increasingly request care supported by evidence. After all, it is the paradigm for promoting health changes. The middle-range hypothesis is a component of the nursing curriculum that can direct therapeutic interventions and scientific analysis. Nurses can discover individuals with relatively low health using health-related quality of existence surveillance research studies, which can assist in directing events to improve their conditions and minimize significant consequences. The examination and distribution of the statistics support the recognition of the necessity for health-related laws and guidelines. Data can help allocate resources depending on unmet requirements, guide the formation of deliberate goals, and evaluate the success of large-scale community initiatives. Information on the many aspects of HRQOL can influence considerations about novel clinical procedures, cutting-edge innovations, and resource distribution for critically ill and disabled older individuals (Shackleford, Kelley & Spratling, 2019). For instance, HRQOL has developed as a more meaningful and acceptable concept for older persons who get long-term service support. Furthermore, it emphasizes numerous health dimensions impacted by progressive health status modifications and the treatment delivered to meet evolving and diverse demands.

Conclusion

Medical hypotheses offer the guiding concepts for new learners in nursing practices and aid in creating nursing skills. For instance, the middle-range medical model is crucial for medical students because it gives them a perspective on middle realities and, more precisely, clarifies broad clinical settings for caregivers. Nurses can make a better choice for the person’s medical care due to the qualities of the assertions found in the middle-range medical concept. The health-related quality of life hypothesis considers non-biological situations, elements, and ideas while determining how a nurse can treat an individual. Nursing workers must be aware of appropriate resources for the HRQOL hypothesis to be effective in a clinical environment. The awareness makes it easier for ill individuals to obtain the resources that can ultimately enhance their quality of existence.
