Nursing is one of the best professions in the world. It is also among the most important professions today. Its importance is clear from the services the nurses offer to other people. They are the greatest ambassadors of a health world in the whole world. Therefore, it is necessary for us to have their professional ethics, values and code. In this case, we emphasize on professional, moral, ethical and legal conduct of nurses to protect the community and patients with psychosocial disorders.
The whole world expects nurses to be on top in observing the moral actions so that the human care it entrusts on them can improve. Human life is more precious than anything else in the world. This highlights the need to hold the moral principles highly in dealing with this precious life (Townsend 2006).They are supposed to put the human life in forefront and do their best in assisting patients to recover. Nurses should put life before anything else in all their duties. These professionals have no option but to observe the first moral principles that objects doing good and avoiding evil.
Their profession handles critical conditions like psychosocial aspects in human beings. Some cases are very dangerous to people if left freely. Moreover, they can be their own individual threats should they be left without observation. In this case, nurses need exceptional decision-making techniques in order to save lives. Therefore, they need to rely so much on their professional ethics. They have to minimize the harm to the majority. Therefore, practitioners have to do whatever they can to minimize the harm (Varcarolis and Jordan 2009).
It is hard for nurses to make a decision in a case, which requires restricting the movement and interaction of patients. This applies in cases where the patients may cause harm when they are left freely. Sometimes nurses opt to restrict them. However, they are supposed to do this if there is no any other option to reduce harm. On humanity basis, they should treat the patient just like any other person considering the basic needs and other rights (Townsend 2006).
The nursing community is advised to follow the law in all duties. This is what every profession demands. The outcomes may differ from opinions but the professional ethics should not be broken. In this conflict, a combination of ethical, moral and legal aspects is very useful in making a decision. It is not easy to make major decisions especially when one fails to observe the requirements of his profession. In some cases, the nurses walk out of their professional ethics and conduct. This is suicidal to their profession. Therefore, it should not be an option at all.
The law provides that the practitioner seek consent from an adult patient before performing an operation. This can be twisted if the practitioner has identified operation as the only option in curing that condition, but the patient refuses. It needs a lot of wisdom to make the patient understand the decision. In a situation like this, one may fail to protect the precious life (Varcarolis and Jordan 2009).
On movement restriction of mental case i.e. insane, one feels that they are violating the rights of a fellow human being. The conflict between individual rights and the common seems to widen. In this case, nurses should have the required lessons and training in order to deal with these situations.
The nurses should weigh between sympathy, values, morality and the law. Personal values play a very important role here. The profession expects them to put personal weaknesses and emotions aside when performing their duties. In this profession, one must command high professional behavior. This is on the contrary to personal behavior. It is clear that the rights of the practitioner and the rights of the patient play crucial roles in this work (Varcarolis and Jordan 2009).
To conclude, nurses must respect their code of conduct. They should live professional lives, full of moral values and ethics. The world will be a better place if they observe all that the profession expects.
