Obesity From Sociological Imagination Viewpoint

Introduction

Obesity is a global health problem; this problem of obesity in modern times is becoming more and more urgent. I believe that the relevance and social significance of the problem of obesity is determined by the threat of disability of young patients and a decrease in overall life expectancy due to the frequent development of severe concomitant diseases. In addition, it seems to me that the patient’s quality of life also decreases due to the negative imagination of the obese patient by others.

The Social Well-Being of Overweight People

In my opinion, the problem of the social well-being of obese people in modern society is quite socially significant. Obese people experience discriminatory restrictions on promotion, everyday household inconveniences and restrictions on movement. Currently, there is also an increase in overweight in children and adolescents, which from an early age can affect their social well-being. Social well-being is understood as a state associated with social comfort or discomfort, with satisfaction with one’s status, determined by comparing oneself with other individuals (Golabi et al. 80). It is possible to identify negative aspects in such indicators of the social well-being of overweight people as social adaptation, subjective assessment of their social status, general characteristics of interaction with their social environment.

Conclusion

Therefore, the social well-being of overweight people largely depends on the opinion of their social environment. The social status of such people is influenced by the degree of satisfaction with the place and nature of their activities. Most obese individuals understand that the modern market is not ready to accept them due to negative sociological imagination.
