Paternity Leave for Employed Fathers

Almost all major companies and organizations offer maternity leave – a particular paid period of time for new mothers. However, in some countries, fathers are also provided with such an opportunity. This is called paternity leave, but, unfortunately, it is available only in five American states. The purpose of this paper is to provide three reasons why paternal leave is a prime and necessary opportunity that has to be offered to all employed fathers.

The first argument for parental leave is that men feel that there is not enough workplace support for fathers. It is hard to disagree that most men want to be a significant part of their infants’ first months of life. However, they fear that they either miss crucial events in the lives of their children because of work or lose their jobs due to taking days off (Cline, 2019). That is why it is essential to offer paid paternal leaves to fathers.

Another crucial advantage is entirely connected with the previous one. According to Cline (2019), men who take paternal leave get more involved in the lives and growing up of their children. Thereby, this involvement significantly decreases delinquency, enhances cognitive development, and reduces the frequency and possibility of psychological and behavioral problems in girls and boys. The constant presence of a reliable and trustworthy man interested and engaged in kids’ everyday lives positively affects their future.

What is more, for employers, there is also a crucial number of paid paternity leave benefits. Researchers note that there is a positive or no noticeable effect on any organization or company that provides paternal leave (Cline, 2019). For example, ninety-one percent of employers reported that paid leave appeared to be rather beneficial for the performance and profitability of their companies (Cline, 2019). Moreover, ninety-six and ninety-nine percent of leaders see a good influence on turnover and employee morale accordingly (Cline, 2019). Therefore, paternity leave may be rather useful for both families and companies.

To draw a conclusion, one may say that equality is necessary in this world. Fathers and mothers, men and women need to have the same rights and opportunities in all spheres of life. Fortunately, there is a significant number of fathers who want to spend as much time with their children as they can. That is why paternal leave is required and has to be introduced in all American states as soon as possible.
