Voting is a democratic process that allows citizens to elect leaders whose manifestos resonate with their goals. In my family, several people engage in this activity since they view it as a fundamental right. For instance, my siblings and parents are usually enthusiastic when it comes to voting. They do so to choose politicians and policymakers who can present ideas and launch projects that have the potential to change their experiences. As a person living in the United States, I have managed to develop various ideas that form my political philosophy. The outstanding ideas include the rule of law, people’s rights, upholding the Constitution, and being part of the electoral process. The government encourages American citizens to vote in order to elect individuals who can meet their needs in life (Cornish, 2016). The materials studied in class, the information gained from different media outlets, and my personal discussions have made it possible for me to form the basis for such political beliefs.
Although the United States remains one of the leading democracies in the world, there are specific individuals who form the country’s power elite. These people formulate most of the decisions, influence policies, and fund candidates who appear to support their business and social interests. However, most of such actions do not undermine the nation’s electoral process. The elite in this country rely on their resources to shape public opinion and political agenda (Cornish, 2016). Additionally, some of the leaders tend to ignore the plight of some of the people in underserved regions, such as the minorities. These gaps explain why Americans need to vote wisely and compel the government to support projects that can improve their experiences and expectations.
